Panerai Rubber Strap Thoughts?

Hey there fellas, mainly a lurker here but thoroughly enjoy reading through all the discussions and learning from all you knowledgeable risti’s. I feel like everywhere I’ve read that concerns a rubber Panerai strap the consensus is that they are extremely comfortable.

I purchased my Pam233 last year (it came with 2 nice OEM leather straps that I always wear) and I’ve only started to try wearing it on the rubber recently. Now quick backstory, when I purchased the watch (full box/papers etc from reputable business affiliated with this site) I asked if they could look around and throw in a OEM rubber strap for me. Kindly they obliged.

I'm finding the rubber strap to be very uncomfortable which is really surprising to me given the majority of people love them? Is there a chance that the strap is not authentic?

I think the discomfort of the strap comes from it not being pliable enough to mold around the bone on the outside of my wrist (i dont have any problems with fitment on any of my Leather OEM straps in the same standard 125/75 size) It somehow feels stiff. Any thoughts from you guys is appreciated

Here are some pics for reference, thanks in advance!

The black is the most stiff of all the colors.

Plus, the fakes are way more pliable as they are not real rubber, typically.

Is that a standard size strap?

I have a standard size rubber strap (came with my 317), and on the strap piece with holes, the back side has "Made in Italy" and on the strap piece with the buckle, has "OFFICINE PANERAI".

Whereas your buckle strap has different text, and the hole strap has nothing.

Maybe there's variation with production runs, so would be good to hear from others what's printed on their OEM rubber straps.

Also, my strap has 2 keepers while yours has 1.
I would think 2 keepers would be standard.

2 keepers is not standard anymore, I have been through this with Panerai as I bought a white rubber strap from the panerai boutique in London & it only has one keeper on it. Apparently that is how they come now. :(

To the OP may consider a deployant clasp & rubber strap, the straps for deployant clasps are slightly thinner & therefore a little more supple/flexible.

I believe 1 keeper on this style. 2 on the vented style.

Give it a little time to soften up.

Yes I just checked mine. I bought same style strap straight from Panerai and it has 1 keeper.
It looks authentic to me.

if it's old i will not be soft and comfortable.

also the rubber dive strap is more comfortable than the conventional rubber strap that you have there

Different straps come from different eras. Rubber straps also age differently than leather and yours could have been sitting around for years before you got it. The newer straps are very comfortable. Why not have a look on the website or stop by a store or boutique and see what they have to offer.

Thanks for the info fellas. Agreed, I’ll be stopping by the NYC Boutique this weekend and see if a rubber one there is more comfortable

Also funny you mentioned the deployant clasp. A buddy has a leather strap setup on deployant and it was more comfortable than my tang strap setup. Unfortunately that’s not a valid comparison since it wasn’t the same Pam model.

I'll agree with many others, I wear a 111 on the rubber strap and love it. I did have to change out the buckle though, the OEM really dug into my wrist.....don't tell anyone, I bought a cheapy on E-Bay that is great....shhhh.

Black with new watch in 2020 has two keepers, and

Made In Italy and OFFICINE PANERAI on the other.

Also, purchased 5 rubbers from OP and all had two keepers (inc a white one).

I thought one keeper was for the Deployant version!

As I have just realised you are correct. I wrongly ordered online from Panerai as boutique were sold out (their website is a pain). I now have a single keeper for a deployant on a buckle! Not good for my ocd but, I could never get the 2nd keeper comfortable on the right version! Always felt like too much tail or it was going to slip out!

I have a period correct OEM black rubber deployant that came with my 111. It’s brutal. The deployant clasp is of the same vintage and it digs into my wrist. I have a new OEM green rubber deployant with a new style deployant clasp that is much more pliable and more comfortable and the clasp does not dig in. All that being said, leather is more comfortable.

All my rubber straps are from Panerai.
I find them to be super comfy, in fact, noticeably more so than the other brands I've owned over the years.
IMO, OEM Panerai straps are tops!

Agree, panerai rubber straps are the most comfortable of any rubber strap I’ve ever had.

I bought a 915 in February, came with the black rubber and the boutique threw in a green one; both have two keepers.

I bought an electric blue OEM accordion for my 973 from a boutique a few months ago, which also came with two keepers, as did the black one issued without the watch.

Picked up a 1321 recently from a PAM AD used recently and the black OEM rubber strap that came with it had 1 keeper. The watch was originally sold in 2019, so I have no idea whether that was standard issue or whether the previous owner simply popped it off and ditched it. Either way, don’t care, as that one’s sitting in the box.

All the PAM OEM rubber straps I own are supremely comfortable tho.

Panerai had at least 4 different pin buckle versions of the basic standard rubber strap with Officine Panerai lettering. Not counting the shorter, longer, deployant clasp or accordion style versions. The first came out in 115/75 with a single rubberized waterproof leather keeper, which had stitching and letter C on the underside, it is notorious for having that rubber coating peeling off / warping. The second version was still 115/75 with a unfixed single rubber keeper. Then the version in 125/75 mm with a single rubber keeper fixed by fins. These versions were mainly having Made in Austria on the underside. Then few years back along with the introduction of the coloured versions (electric blue, Navi blue, orange, olive green and white) Panerai added the second rubber keeper and changed the material to more stiffer one, the lettering was revised to Made in Italy.

Hello all, this will be my first post here. I have a 1312, purchased in 2018. The rubber strap included with that watch has one keeper. It is the older model with the see through case back and hacking seconds. I purchased a 1314 last year. That comes with on olive colored rubber strap with two keepers. I was in New York last week on vacation and went by the Panerai boutique, as I wanted to check out the new 44mm submersible with the green bezel, but alas, not in stock. I got a fair idea of what it would look like as they had both the blue and black models in stock, both looked great. While there I purchased a white rubber strap for the 1314. This also has two keepers. I think its a great summer look

I know a lot of folks swear by them, but I’ve never taken to rubber straps.

I put my 690 on an OEM a few years ago and I didn’t care for it still have the strap but haven’t worn it since.

Here's what it looks like on the 690 not the best picture.

I bought it with the clasp and buckle because I'm too lazy to change it up lol

If you want to see a bit DM me here.
