Current availability?
I have been away from watch collecting for 6 years and am slowly trying to join back in the fun! Recently heard that Subs are pretty readily available. I was offered my choice of GMT Master II (Batman or Pepsi), Red letter SeaDweller or Submariner (including the Green Ceramic).
Have you found Submariners are more readily available now than a year ago? Is the Batman more easily found than Pepsi (SS model)? I need to make some decisions and I love them all. Just not certain which model is most difficult to procure these days, because I would start with that one first. Thank you... I appreciate your thoughts and I'm excited to be back! |

IMHO, you'll have a lot more fun if you're patient for a while

If you’re going by hard to get, ask your SA specifically for the model they can never get in.
Obviously they’re not “hard to get” if you were offered your choice of the litter. |

I don’t understand the desire to start with whichever one is hardest to get first. Why wouldn’t you start with the one that you think you would enjoy wearing the most?

I'd say BLRO, BLNR, Submariner, in that order. If you were offered any, you should have taken it on the spot.

Now is a good time to be scoping. Two or three months down the line will likely be a better time than now for acquisitions. All the best with it. |

Buy what you will like to wear and what will make you really happy when you look at it. Doesn't sound like you know what you want. Best to you!

Did an AD offer you the Pepsi or thru a reseller?

Are you being offered all those by your AD?

OP, help me out here. Why are you purchasing a watch based on how hard it is for others to get instead of buying the one you like best and will enjoy wearing the most?

All right. Some clarification from my part.
I like all of these models but my AD thinks the SS Pepsi may be more difficult to get because he says the red ceramic color is tougher than the blue ceramic of a Batman to process/make. He said they will procure plenty of Subs so I am wondering if you collectors have found that to be true as well. I understand no one can make my decision for me and I know whichever one I buy first will be great. Just trying to get a pulse on the market/availability. He did say they have plenty of Rolex women's watches. Thanks much and sorry if this came off as a stupid question! |

Or were you just spitballing just like we all do when we visit the AD? Sounds like the latter |

The BLRO is probably the most difficult to get, but which one speaks to you?
For me it was the Submariner which, while perhaps a bit traditional compared to some of the GMTs and LVs, makes me happy. That said, the more I see of the CHNR, the more I dig it (and I've never even been a TT fan). |

Was just at my AD today. I don't live in a metropolis. I told him I was interested in a BLNR on oyster. He said it's tough to say how long but he quoted 12 months as a best case scenario. We'll see, could have just been managing expectations.

Really? The choice should be yours based on your own taste, not what is hot or hard to get…

For the most part those are not readily available. BLRO hardest, BLNR then the sub. If he is offering you any of those I would run down and pick one up immediately. For me it would be the PEPSI.
From my parts those are nowhere close to being the first model you are offered. |

I would agree with this TOMINNJ.
Not as many are looking for the CHNR compared to the sub but my AD only gets 3 CHNR a year which makes it more difficult to get. Subs on the other hand everyone wants but AD's get a lot more. (there has been a huge trend toward TT and PM pieces of late so this has a huge impact on difficulty to obtain but may wane down the road especially with the downturn in the market). My AD Said there were dozens of people that would have bought if I didn't take it last year. Beautiful piece btw if you are thinking of it. Like most pieces you have to see it in person to appreciate the colours. YMMV |

Honestly though - agree with words. The question should be : which watch do you think suits you and your wrist / lifestyle / fashion choice best and hence you'd get the most pleasure out? Asking a random forum of strangers for what the hardest to get model is since you can get everything is asking for it... If that's how you want to start, why not just get a Platona Baguette Dial, a Rainbow Daytona or maybe a 5711 (preferrably Platinum or Tiffany dial)... that should suffice in the flex department |

I’ll play devils advocate here: maybe someone who likes a bunch of watches but can only get one watch today (financial means, dealer policies) wants too know which they’re most likely to be able to get down the line and which to make sure to snap up more if offered?

Appreciate all of your comments. I actually love my 16710 and 1675 Pepsi models. The ceramic red is just a deeper red than those... still like it, though. Thanks for those who answered with info from their market places as that confirms what AD suggested. I wish I were in a position to buy them all, but sadly it isn't the case. And as dannyp said, I would rather add the more difficult to find model (that I like) first, then add the others as I'm able to.
