PAM000 for a first Panerai?

My budget is around 4K unless I wait and save more. But I do like the look and simplicity of the PAM 000. I have 7.25” wrists and like a chunky watch with some wrist presence.

Just looking for feedback in terms of this being a good choice for my first Panerai. Also any years to avoid? I have seen older models from 2008 on sale as well as some newer from around 2015. Not sure if there were significant changes over the years I should be aware of.

Thanks everyone!

Mine is from 2008 that I bought used as my first panerai. I’ve had it 8 years and still love it. I’m doubtful it has ever been serviced. It’s a strap monster and a fine first panerai.

A base is the best way to start. My preference was for an older 112 model with exhibition back. Either way you can’t go wrong.

I suggest a 112 instead. For the same money, you can have a display case back with a beautifully decorated movement.

My first pam was an 01085 Blue Mare. I love the simplicity of the base models but wanted something a little less plain. The blue sunburst dial of the 01085 is beautiful.

Have you considered getting one with a sandwich dial? I personally love the depth the dial gains with that Vs the sausage dial.

Which model is that? I thought the PAM000 had the sausage dial and solid case back?

This is the 112, but an early G serial.

Thanks everyone. I hunted down a 2008 PAM000 for a decent price. I will post pictures when I receive it!

Base logo was my first and remains the best Panerai for me. Simple, perfect Panerai DNA, and honest eta movement.

Zero is a bona ride water sport watch unlike current base with its snap on case back. Also the quintessential Panerai aesthetic.

It’s a shame what’s happened to the brand.
