Martin, you are very lucky to live there. As I said in a previous post I worked in Brighton for six months and loved it. It is such an interesting fun town. If any of our TRF readers are visiting London ever, I would recommend a day or two visiting Brighton, it's very close to London also.

Hey, Martin. The family had a little outing today to a convenience store/gas station/burger joint/soda pop shop. It's located on historic Route 66 in Arcadia, about a 20 minute drive from Oklahoma City. With your thread in mind, I took some shots along the way.

Along Route 66:

This is neon-lit by night:

The 2-wheeled crowd likes the place, too.

I think there are 500 kinds of soda pop available, imported from all over the world. Any one can be had for $2 a bottle.

Caroline will be glad to see cane sugar Coke, from Mexico:

Food wasn't healthy, but pretty tasty!

Fried whole okra, dipped in a cornmeal batter. Nutritious lunch!

Have no idea if this little video clip will load, but I'll give it a try... Husband says I'm wasting memory, but I think we're making memories!

Martin, I would love to get down to Brighton again. We were there about 30 years ago on a driving trip through the south of England and enjoyed the day we spent there. If I could find a cheap enough train ticket, we would pay you a visit. What do you know of the cost of a London-Brighton return?

Ed would be a pleasure showing you around Brighton. Its changed a lot since your last visit, lot of shop development and improvements to seafront. Its quite a trendy place with lots of good places to eat.
A day return London Victoria to Brighton would be about £20 on the day. Traveling time is 50 mins to 1 hour ten minutes, depending on how many stops the train takes. They run about three trains an hour.

We'll be back in London in February. We typically arrive on a Thursday and depart for home on the followingTuesday As we get closer, I'll be in touch and figure out when to come down. Any day of the week that is particularly good or bad?

Sorry, these are all about 2 minutes (on foot) from my house. If I walk really, really slowly (or stagger back from the pub) it could take 20 minutes.

Great thread, and what lovely looking countryside. My recollection of Brighton is a bit alcohol clouded, from happy away days at the coast after a hard week working in London.

How happy does your family look ?! Can I get some of that medication for my monsters ?

I have enjoyed reading this thread and would love to visit the places viewed. I live in the South suburbs of Chicago and 20 minutes away is nothing but towns and to the south is the country. But all you see is farms growing fields of corn and soy beans!!!
