Burn Pit legislation a big win for Veterans
Great to see this put in place for Veterans that were affected by burn pits.

I don’t know a lot about this. What was typically burned in these pits?

I was in Iraq on a US base during the second war. All the trash went to burn pits. Food waste from the DFAC, barracks trash, plastic, human waste, motor pool oil, loose ammo, and anything that would normally be discarded in your home.
Proper garbage trucks full of trash would back up to large deep pits and empty their load. A few hundred gallons of JP8 would be splashed on it and set alight. The trash didn't burn so much as smolder. Normally the wind pushed the plume off base, but some days it would settle over the base and permeate through every crack and crevice. If cancer has a smell, it smells like a burn pit. |

I think you summed it up well in a nutshell.

The burn pits were terrible. For the remote locations in Afghanistan I don’t know what a better solution would be.
