Sonoma's Finest

We were back in Sonoma for the weekend to show my sister-in-law around town...hit up 7 wineries and had tastings at all of them. Needless to say, we might have gotten a little tipsy.

We've been to plenty of wineries and we never try to go to the same ones twice; I'll admit that a couple of these were some of the most beautiful that we've seen. Hope you enjoy the trip!

Ha! St. Francis Winery and Vineyards is two blocks from my house! I was there with some out of town friends last Thursday while taking them on a tasting tour along highway 12.

When we were there, I remember that Ferrari-Carano had the most beautiful gardens. Good but perhaps not the best wines, but their gardens were their thing!

Napa and Sonoma are very fun, even for novice wine folks. Every winery experience offered something different.

Haha - we are neither rich, nor famous. Just living life to the best way we can.

Ledson is top notch. Everyone from outside CA is all about Napa, but we love Sonoma (even my sister-in-law was like "wait, we're not going to Napa? What's Sonoma?")...the intimate feeling of the wineries is like Florence to Rome. I've come to realize that while I enjoy big cities and affairs, I much prefer boutique experiences versus the large, commercial ventures.

Beautiful pics! Sonoma and other smaller areas is where it's at! I'm just not that interested in a winery if I can't meet the winemaker and/or owner.

Great pictures. Sonoma more under the radar than Napa. Both areas great.

Yeah, Napa is more famous and has around 400 wineries. Sonoma County has about 425 wineries.

Napa is essentially one main road and another running parallel down the valley with connecting roads in between.

Sonoma is a different experience with long and winding "backroads" with many hidden treasures to check out. Due to the various micro climates in Sonoma County there is probably more variety of grapes than Napa. Lots of wineries have land in both areas and blend grapes for their various products.

Sonoma County sort of centers out of Santa Rosa and north taking in Healdsburg etc and then over to Alexander Valley and it also goes from Santa Rosa down highway 12 towards Sonoma.

Yeah, we stayed in Santa Rosa, which was a perfect central point between the Russian River wineries and those in Kenwood. Petaluma is a nice town to stay in as well.

Santa Rosa was where Charles Schulz (Peanuts, Charlie Brown) lived. The Snoopy Rink is there as well as his museum.

During the Tubbs fire in 2017, about 3000 homes in Santa Rosa burned down.

Petaluma was where American Graffiti was filmed. Cute little town.

Great photos! I live on the other side of the country but visited Sonoma back in 2018 after visiting Napa the year before and I loved it. There are some favorite wineries in Napa, but I overall preferred visiting Sonoma. Have wanted to go back ever since.

That's it right there - under the radar is best for us. Napa is definitely a stunner as well though.
