First Reason For Wearing a "New"

How do you see that, with a new watch, would you make it a point to wear it for the first time on a special occasion? For example, I mean something like:

My watch is delivered on Monday, Friday is a funeral that means a lot to me. So I leave the watch in the box until Friday and wear it for the first time on Friday.

Or the birthday, I get them, but only wear them on the day itself. Wedding, birth, etc. There are in principle a thousand examples, but for me it is unfortunately the first mentioned due to the current situation.

Do you know what I mean? Do you think that's emotional "nonsense"? Or maybe one or the other can do something with this way of thinking?

Thanks.

It's a watch to be worn when you want ,life is unpredictable and many lessons to be learned the watch gives us times for important deep sea dives ,curing times for epoxies and a simple 10 minute bake time. Just enjoy these accurate time pieces life complicated enough!

Speaking for myself been wearing Rolex watches mostly every day for the past 50 odd years one particular watch used for many years as a working tool underwater. Rolex watches are meant to be worn daily no matter the occasion thats what they are for wearing and enjoying wearing them.

For my first Rolex purchase, the achievement was finally acquiring the watch I always wanted. So I wore that baby Day 1 on vacation where I purchased it. That was a special occasion in itself.

I know what you are saying. The day I got the call for my watch, was the day I found out I have cancer. I was to have a follow up a week later to discuss the path forward. I picked up my watch and left it in the box until the day of my follow up... which was yesterday. The watch now has an attachment to an event, a day in my life. They are now inseparable.

To some, this may sound silly... to me, not so much.

My delay in wearing it was for the initial wearing, now it's fair game on any day.

Maybe if I had a very rare and expensive watch, I would only wear it on special events. Although I won't have such a watch precisely because I wouldn't buy such an expensive wristwatch that I would be afraid to wear. Paradoxically, however, I have a "cheap" watch that I wear on just some days in a year, because it's a real rarity.

However and of course, all the aboves aren't true for a family heritage or a watch with an emotional charge. In this cases I would only wear them on real special events, because I would take care of them. For the rest of the watches: Just like in the advert,

"These watch are made for walking... er... wearing :)"

I wear my watches immediately and often. That way I can determine if it is what I like and how it fits in my collection. I try not to overthink it.

Every new watch gets primary wrist time from day 1, then into the rotation when I fancy wearing another. Don’t link a watch with especially a sad occasion

This +1.

Personally, I wouldn’t want a “sad day” watch, especially when it should be a celebration item.

Last one I bought I purchased for a birthday. It showed up six months early and I wore it then. I know that I bought it to represent so made no difference to me. Sorry for your loss and enjoy your new watch.

I find that memories are attached to the watches I wear, the more I wear them the more special the watch becomes to me.

When I've bought new Rolex watches, I've worn them out of the store and that typically goes for any watch I buy. The only exceptions are when I need to go elsewhere to get the watch sized.

Sorry for your loss. Maybe start to wear it at home first, ti get used to it a bit, and then on the funeral. You will remember for very long, that you wore it on that funeral... the first of a ling series of memories with the watch.

Do what makes you happy. I’d waiting for a special occasion does it for you, knock your socks off.

Personally, I may choose a particular watch for an event for emotional reasons or to attach a memory to the watch. But I wouldn’t keep a watch in the box until that event.

Life is too short, wear the watch you want when you want!

Nothing wrong with having a watch that commemorates an occasion for you, or simply reminds you of a special day, time, or person.

I have several and each time that I put one on I remember that time.

Can't say that I have ever stuck one away and waited for that occasion to roll around though.
