California population declines for second year in a row
https://www.usnews.com/news/best-sta...-largest-in-us
My home state lost population for the second year in a row, 2020 and 2021. It is not drastic, something like .3 and .8%, but it does represent a loss of tens of millions of dollars of tax revenue. I love my state and my home, but I understand the desire. I know SEVERAL families and individuals that have left. I could sell my 685 square foot condo near the beach, and literally buy a three or four bedroom home with an acre of land in Texas or Florida; easily. Especially for families, that is a very lucrative proposition. These are interesting times. Maybe they are just all trying to get away from me? |

awesome...
I left in 2010 after growing up in LA, OC and Santa Barbara counties since 1962, I never want to go back to live. THAT BEING SAID, every time I visit, I am saddened by my inability to live there by choice. |

Folks are waking up. Eventually they get tired of the crime, the high taxes, the poorly run government, high cost of living, and the restrictions on freedoms. Can't blame them. It's a shame too...beautiful state with a lot of resources.

Though not from there, I have big love for California. I love visiting that state. That said I previously lived in a city that became overrun with Californians. Worst thing that could’ve happened to the locals who can no longer afford to live in their birthplace. CA losing population isn’t just bad for CA, but Austin, Nashville, Boise, etc…..

Cost of living is only a part of it. Many of them bring their failed policies and politics with them, ruining the “better place” they chose to move. |

I was just trying to stay apolitical though I tend to hang pretty center. Don’t want the politics of CA. Don’t want the politics of the south. Common sense seems to be a thing of the past. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If it wasn’t for my wife having her family in Northern California, we would be out. Taxes are a joke, no political discussion needed, everyone gets it. Outside of playing golf the entire year, it’s not great. 800-1m gets you a fairly mediocre home compared to other states. It’s crazy hot in the summer, but the winters are essentially on existent. I wish we would go to Texas, Georgia or the Carolina’s.
The day my daughter leaves for college we are gone, at least 51% of the year lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

51% isn’t enough. If you live 11 months elsewhere, they’ll eventually audit you, and come after the 1/12 + interest and penalties. Have watched it happen to others. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I get the taxes, but I love California and there isn't a better place to live for weather and activities all year round. Can't ask for anything more than that. |

Most of the people leaving are leaving for real estate reasons. Real estate is always expensive where people WANT to live. And cheap where they don't. Enjoy your paradises in the other states.

Sacramento, we had quite a few days of 108+ this year. I think 112 was the highest this year, it wasn’t fun. I love Monterey, the weather there is my favorite in the entire state. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Politics aside, can't help but wonder how California will change after the 'big one'.
Granted, I've been hearing about the imminent 'big one' for a long, long time, but you do have to think it'll happen at some point.

I love California. Taxes are tough for sure. However, as Jesse mentioned above, If you like to be outdoors a lot it is hard to beat. I fish all summer, just bought a cabin in the mountains and will be spending time there in the winter.

I went to San Francisco for a couple of days, I loved it and wished I could have spent longer there.
Was disappointed that no one was wearing any flowers in their hair.

1967? What a coincidence, I think that was the last time I was wrong.

I remember when i stopped in at a very small pizzeria downtown. I order a couple of slices sat down and started to eat. Right then, the cook came out of the kitchen with a prostitute. I could barely finish the pizza after that. Then some of my stuff got stolen out of my friends apartment. And an acquaintance was assaulted on the sidewalk when we went bar hopping.` Yes, fond memories. |

No, unfortunately I do not remember the name of the pizza joint. Another prostitute came into the pizzeria as the first one came out of the kitchen. Apparently they were friends and shared some gardening tips. Something about a hoe...... |

Even though I reside in Las Vegas, I still have a property just north of Santa Barbara and in Lomita So cal... I never go there though.
If ever I want to see non stop bumper to bumper traffic, I will visit. |
