eBay Authenticator Service review!
I bought a Rolex 116600 with papers, described as excellent condition, on eBay this past week at a great price. It listed for $14,000+, and with my best offer, I got it for $12,800. Everything went smoothly with the transaction, and the watch was shipped right away from Japan. Yesterday afternoon, I got a call from the eBay Authenticator in Ohio, which informed me that the watch I bought had a bent bezel and would not click on a particular spot. It was not declared in the listing. I was given the option to return the watch or keep it. I opted to return the watch since I’m not sure what else the seller did not disclose. If I keep the watch, I have no idea how much it would cost to fix it. I was so excited to finally get the Rolex 116600 and add it to my collection, but I was disappointed with the news. I guess I need to look out for another copy in the coming months. Attached is the picture that the eBay authenticator sent me. Kudos to them for catching the flaw in the watch. Could you kindly share if you have a similar experience buying on eBay with an authentication guarantee? Did I make the right decision? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

yes, you made the right decision. Sorry but what do you mean by "I guess I need to look out for another copy in the coming months."

I had a similar experience when buying a 214270 via eBay. The authentication service advised the box was a fake so I returned the watch on principle.

eBay Authenticator Service review!
Just realized this was a 116600, so my original comment was not correct. Best of luck finding another. I would say it’s highly unlikely that bezel is bent. Seated incorrectly is much more likely. That’s really hard to bend.

Thanks! I’m just quoting the authenticator regarding the bezel. That’s how they described it in the email that I received. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I've bought a half a dozen watches on ebay that have gone through authentication and have never had this kind of a problem with any of them, so I've never experienced this.
The last one I bought, though, did arrive barely running (it wouldn't hold power for more than 10 or 15 minutes). It worked okay on a timegrapher, so I'm guessing they ran a basic test on it and passed it through. |
