The VC Overseas has been smiling at me for some time now. Could you please tell me some more about this watch (the chronometer, not the chronograph)? How are VC's watches in the value retention department? I have no intent to flip watches, but it helps if there ever is a time to sell or whatever.

Not sure about resale, but I've always liked those watches, not so much the chronograph but the chronometer, I think it's a pretty nice looking watch.

Vacheron Constantin make, imo one of the best watches in the world.
The craftmanship is truly stunning.

Great watch, very versatile. 150m water resistance, and supremely comfortable. Goes with shorts or suit. It hugs the wrist nicely as well. VC now has rubber and leather options if you want to switch things up. You can usually get enough of a discount that re-sale isn't a huge hit, and this is a very desirable model.

They also just came out with a new version of it, with a Ti bezel. Comes with a rubber and leather strap, not with the bracelet. And the dial is not guilloche, as with the all SS version:

That may be the case, but the Overseas was not designed by Genta. The AP Royal Oak and the PP Nautilus originally were, but even the origin of the current Overseas (the 222) was not designed by Genta, but by Jorg Hysek.

Hard to decide which I like most.

Yes, they are fantastic watches, i had a choice between the chrono and the AP and there was nothing in it at the end, the new Ti models are beautiful, i keep seeing them and always think that they are up there with the best, in terms of look and function.

The only thing stopping me buying new is the resale value, over here in the UK they all but halve in value after a year or so, so not quite a great deal, but then again so do most expensive watches and if you're buying second hand then that initial loss is already done, a bit like buying nearly new cars.

I also love the Overseas Chrono, stunning watch...only concern I have is that from what I've heard, the servicing costs are nutty for that watch, on the order of $1500 or so!

Why is the Overseas dual time has a very very similar dial design to the AP Royal Oak dual time?

Enlighten me anyone?

And I love the SS overseas with leather strap.. awsome classic!

They have the same movements, each modified slightly differently.

I believe that the overseas uses an in-house movement, right?

And also that the AP RO uses the same one (albeit modified), that's why the dials in the dual times look so similar.

But I would like confirmation from an expert.

The Overseas does not use an in-house movement. The base in the Chronometer and Dual Time are from JLC, and the base in the Chronograph is a Frederic Piguet. They are modified and finished of course to VC's standards.

The movement in the VC and the AP Dual Time watches is the same, each modified a bit differently.

not true.. the 3rd generation Overseas are both (chrono and date) an in-house VC movement .. Cal 5200 and Cal 5100 respectively.. both with the Geneva Seal.. first time ever on an Overseas.

I love the dual time, but of the two I liked the Royal Oak the best. Just a matter of personal preference - and, frankly, it has been so long since I looked at one that looking at these VC pictures make me wonder why I ever preferred the RO.

the overseas is a grail watch.. VC is part of the "Holy Trinity" along with Patek and AP.... and only VC has the coveted Geneva Seal

Also not true. Patek watches also have the Seal.

Modern Pateks no longer have the Geneva Seal. They created their own seal which is what is now on their watches.
