Question about supposed Rolex found in late uncles watch box.

Recently my uncle was lost to a PTSD related suicide. Found in his closet was a small box with two watches kept in it.
I don’t know anything about Rolex or if this is even a real Rolex but found was this watch with a shattered crystal face. It’s believed this was bought by him sometime after he got back from Afghanistan.
I delicately kept the watch turned off and removed the crystal, but again I don’t know anything about watches.
Is this thing worth trying to get repaired or is it better off left to sit on a dresser?

Almost any Rolex is worth repairing. Heirlooms or those with attached sentimentality even more so.

If you don't fix it, who will.

As a Combat Veteran who has been diagnosed with PTSD, I can not say how sorry I am about your uncle. I can say, to those of you out there that are having a difficult time, PLEASE reach out, there is NO shame in asking for help. I did and continue to do so. Me, a conceited-cocky fighter pilot needed help and am very glad I asked. To any vets, call the 800 number ANY time you are feeling challenged, talk with someone that has been in your situation, you are NOT alone. Here are instructions for attaching photos to your post; jpg images must be less than 293 kilobytes in size, which is plenty big enough to provide sufficient detail for us to get a good idea of what you have. If your image is larger than 293 kB, you can resize it using Paint or any of the other free image manipulation programs, or use one of the free online resizing programs like resize2mail.com.

Embedding attachments in Rolex Forums posts

Here are instructions for attaching a .jpg image to your post. It must be less than 293 kiloBytes in size, so if it's larger than that you'll have to resize it using one of the free online apps on the net like https://www.resize2mail.com/

1. Click on "Post Reply" at the bottom of the last post in the thread.

2. In the "Additional Options" window, click on "Manage Attachments."

3. In the window that opens, click the top "Choose File" and then enter the file name of the .jpg file on your hard drive you want to embed in your post. Click "Upload." If your file is too large you will be told, and you'll have to reduce the file size below 293 kB.

4. Close that window, click "Preview Post" to preview your post, and if it looks OK click "Submit Reply."

You may have to include some text (a short sentence will do) in your post.

Given the circumstances, even if the watch weren't genuine, I'd consider restoring to working order. Even something that isn't genuine can be a legitimate family heirloom (so long as though it's never passed off as anything but).

So sad. I would certainly restore it. I've spent thousands restoring and maintaining my late father's watch. I have always been so happy to have it.
