Help - Got the Call on the Tudor Pelagos 39!!

When this watch was announced, I saw it on the first day of release and fell in love. By that time, I was already 4th on the waitlist at my usual AD. I also got on the list at another local AD.

After Christmas shopping and booking a couple of trips for next year, I told myself that I would buy it if it came up while my Sub was being serviced (5-8 week wait). Well, I picked up the Sub yesterday after 5 weeks.

So, last night I was sitting at home and a local artist whom I had been chatting with about doing a piece of the mountains near Winter Park called and said I convinced him to finish a piece he had in the works for a few months. He offered me first dibs on one of the limited edition prints.

My wife and I both loved the piece so much we bought one of the limited editions for roughly the same price as the P39. It is basically the view we see of town from our living room window.

So ya'll can see where this is going, right???

I just got a call from the second AD and they are holding the Pelagos 39 until the close of business.

Aarrghhh!!!

Is this fate telling me now is not the time???

Don’t fret. That watch will be widely available very soon. Look at the BB58 - they’re everywhere! Take your time

I've been thinking the same thing about the Black Bay Chrono. Here we are almost 2 years later now and its still as elusive as it ever was. I can't believe I got a rootbeer GMT before the white dial Tudor.

I wouldn’t fret, you’ll be able to pick that up easily in 2023.

Spend the money on something both you and your wife enjoy. A beautiful piece of art is much more exclusive and (in your case) personal than a watch.

If it was a white dial Daytona or Pepsi, than maybe...but the Pelagos is just a temporarily hot piece from a entry level luxury brand.

I agree. But how long???

I am heading to Switzerland next summer to hike around Mont Blanc and would like to be able to find one there at that point. It has always been a bucket list thing to do - buy a watch in Geneva.

Next summer? I guarantee you'll have a 39 Pelagos by then if you still want one.

Great! More Mountain paintings to fall in love with. I see this dilemma continuing for another year ;-)

Maybe could have just looked out the living room window and bought the watch?

I thought the same thing. If you were hanging the painting in Florida that would be a different story.

I am waiting on a P39 also and if the called me I would buy it. However I do agree if things continue to cool down this watch will be available at the AD in 6 to 12 months. Tudor is great but not Rolex. I have seen been offered the following Tudors BB58 blue and black, FXD, Gmt Pepsi and rootbeer, black dial chrono, BB. Ceramic, BB pro on strap and bought the bracelet version. Good luck on your decision.

Are you going to hang the picture in your living room?

Is the P39 is different enough from a sub for you to want it?

That is a very real possibility.

Yep, picture is going on a vaulted living room wall.

And I have been on the fence as to whether it is different enough. It would serve as a more sports related or heavy work day watch to save the Sub from harsher conditions. My 116610 took some heavy beatings in its first 10 years of wear.

I was in Germany in October and Bucherer said they were not even selling Rolex and high demand Tudors to non-EU customers.

Hopefully the hype will have died down by July but the demand for the FxD seems to be holding.

Thanks everyone for the rational advice. I decided to wait until this summer and see what happens. Too many factors said I should let the next guy on the list take the opportunity since I already have the Sub.

Never know, there could be a guy waiting to get his first dream watch for Christmas getting a call this morning.

I would have made it work. Sometimes opportunity happens and you just have to step up. As far as waiting goes you can rationalize it any way you want. In the end you are going to buy the watch so why not just do it. It is only money and while it may tighten things up a bit I don't think it is enough to stop the purchase. Just my thoughts. Merry Christmas.

I had my eyes on a P39 until I saw it in the flesh - I was really disappointed - disproportionately wide bezel and drearily flat dial (even the sunburst didn’t lift it sufficiently). Only good thing about it is the bracelet.

I passed when I got the call…

You will obtain this watch very very easily next year. Tudor aren’t sought after really they’re might be a backlog on a NEW release but it very quickly settles down.

Not sure about that - there are a few watches they do not produce many of and this may be one. But at the end of the day it’s just a watch and you can get via other means if not in the case.

Keep the wife happy - everything gets better from there on.

I love this - so many posts are echoing this same sentiment. The wild craze is over... Even more reason to think there will be plenty of choices by next Summer.

Soon enough submariners are going to be in the case waiting to be purchased. The great watch bubble of 2020 has begun it's deflation.

Because OP was offered a Tudor P39 doesn't mean Rolex Subs will be available. Tudor has never been truly difficult to obtain, for anyone. I've been offered Tudor every couple months during the entire drought without ever asking. (Only shopping for Rolex, don't want Tudor. I guess I don't want that faux relationship...)

Prediction: ADs will continue to use the SS Sports models as leverage through 2023. PM and TT will be available upon request.

I agree with not getting the Pelagos right now. After all, you got your Sub back from service -- it is the standard by which all other dive watches are compared. Enjoy it, along with the unique artwork and other stuff you have lined up. Get something cool in Geneve in the future.

Artwork for me. The Pelagos will be readily available in the case in the near future or even better pick up for less than MSRP in the secondary market very soon.

Here it is….

My wife has liked this guy’s work for a few years. He is becoming pretty popular here in Colorado based on his images of Colorado mountain towns and western scenery.

Some good friends of ours live down the street from the artist and they had recently purchased a couple of his ski related images that I really liked. I called him up and asked if he would have any pieces of our town. He kindly fast-tracked this one.

Wish I could afford an original, but those are grey market Daytona prices.
