I'm headed to the local t-shirt and fudge seaside town next week, just for a quick 3-day getaway. Last year I took the SD there twice and was always a little nervous. This year I have the following choices:

1. Sea-Dweller on Oyster
2. Sea-Dweller on Zulu
3. Seiko SKX007 on Super-Oyster
4. Seiko SKX007 on Zulu
5. Seiko SKX007 on rubber
6. G-shock DW5600 (Solar, Atomic)
7. Nothing (enjoy the vacation)

If I were to run out the door right now, I would probably grab the Seiko on rubber or the G.

Several years ago while at the beach playing with my daughter, she accidentally ripped my watch off my arm. It was an expensive lesson. It is impossible to recover a watch with the waves crashing on you.

I now wear expendable type watches while playing at the beach.

Wow. How did that happen with the way the clasp locks? Were you wearing it very loose? Did the bracelet break? Or do you still have your hand? ;-)

It was a bracelet watch and to be honest I do not know how it came apart, my daughter and i were playing around at the beach in the surf and i felt her grab it while playing with a ball or something. We spent some time with the swim masks with no success. That was about 30 years ago. she was just a little girl and to this day she tells the story. My son now deceased, knew how i felt naked without my watch, came up to me later and took off his cheap fashion watch and said "dad, here just take mine." that watch lives in my safe now and is just as valuable to me as my Rolex.

It seems to me then that there is a good reason that you lost that watch.

make sure the SD is insured and don't give it a second thought, or if the only way you'll relax is to trully not worry about it then put on the G-shock and be done with it. But honestly my only fear these days now that all my time piece are insured are what's more practical not whether or not someone might steal it or if it will end up getting sandy/damaged

Both very good points. A lifetime of East Coast beach going has taught me one thing. The shops sell cheap sandals, sunglasses and watches for a reason. Stuff gets lost at the beach!

20 years at the beach and I have never had a problem with myh Sub. It's a beach watch.

I agree with GoldenBear except it's been more like forty years for me. Haven't had a Sub all those years but never had a watch problem from Key West to Cape Cod and many in between.

go with #1 be proud and enjoy it, its a nice watch...if your afraid of loosing it get insurance, and worst case you get a new watch!!!

#2, the Zulu should ensure that the watch stays on, and you won't have to worry about sand getting between the bracelet links.
