RSC Beverly Hills experience and info
Went to the RSC in BH to drop off my 16570 Polar this morning for service.
Purchased it in October and has been running around 15 seconds slow/day after a month wear. No issues with powere reserve etc. Received an email quote within 2 hours. Price was $750 for complete Overhaul "mandatory", and an additional $146 for "optional" crystal replacement. The lady in the front asked me the year as this determines the price. Opted just for the overhaul since the crystal change was "optional and recommended" i couldnt not tell any damage to the crystal however i never looked at with with a loupe. The inspection stated that it was chipped? Overall wait time quoted is 6 weeks. |

I'd do the crystal at 146, why risk it?

Had my 16570 serviced there a few years back and opted for a new crystal, the cyclops had a scratch. P serial $180
In your case, there’s probably some minuscule chips along the outer edge of the crystal, that you’d have to really look for to notice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thanks all for the input. Might as well since it’s in for service.

They did my TOG in November in about 5 weeks; great service! Would suggest to do the sapphire crystal change as it’s pretty cheap when done as part of the service

I had a Datejust serviced at about the 10 year mark. I must have got the new guy work on my watch. It was running +1 and came back +6. I guess I should have asked for it to be regulated as accurate as possible when I dropped it off.

While at the RSC, do the crystal as well. You'll be all set.

Agree with some of the other posters. If they recommend the crystal replacement, and it's only $146, go ahead and get it done.
Thanks for the info on the pricing. That's good to know. |

They almost always wants to upsell you a crystal for no valid reason other than to make a few bucks.
The costs are so insignificant that I always let them have it

Good info on the service cost as my 16570 needs a visit there soon... I took a bit of a dive some time back and will need to add a new bezel as mine's now got a bit of a gash at the bottom.
On the crystal bit though the first time I had brought it in some years back they suggested a crystal replacement then as they said there were some chips even though there was nothing visibly apparent. I swung by to see what they were referring to and if you ran your fingernail along the edge you could feel some roughness - nothing major though so I left it as is on that visit. This go around it'll get replaced. |

I’ve taken my 20+ year old Yachtmaster to the Beverly Hills RSC a number of times for service, and they’ve never recommended a replacement crystal. I’ve also had it serviced at two other RSCs (I’ve let only RSCs service my watch), and neither of them recommended a crystal replacement.
I can’t speak to the experience of others, but I have not had any RSC do an “upsell” and recommend a crystal replacement as part of service. If the RSC advises it, I would do it. |

If rsc recommends my wife’s boyfriend replace the crystal, I let them do it.

Yeah, the chips on mine were very very minor at the time - but enough for them to ask about replacing as the watch was there and being serviced. I think they are obliged to point it out no matter how minor and I wouldn't call it an upsell. There was no insistence or strong push back when I said no, it's fine for now.

Yeah, I would feel confident that they're not trying to upsell. For $146, they're not going to add that in just to try and make a few bucks. Such a relatively insignificant amount. If they mentioned that they found a chip, I would trust that its true.
From their point of view, even if the chip was very small and wouldn't compromise the integrity of the watch any and they didn't recommend it......How would that look? You get the watch back from service and either yourself or someone else happens to look closely and see the chip. You would be thinking, what the heck? I just got this back from service and they didn't see this? The watchmaker is just doing a good job here. |

$146 seems like a nominal fee for a new crystal, if it's going away for six weeks why not kill two birds with one stone. Glad that you've decided to get it replaced, please report back and share some post service photos

Thanks - my Sub started running 10 seconds slow after 2 months from purchase after running just 1.5 seconds slow the first month (there was a gap in my tracking) - has held there for 6 months - want to send in but waiting for hopefully #2 before I do
Curious to see if the overhaul sticks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I’d go for the crystal replacement; many of the new service crystals have AR coating on the underside which makes it less reflective. Ask them if the service crystal will have AR on the underside.
