DSSD black dial or d-blue

I’m going back and forth on the dial choice. Leaning towards the black dial as it seems more classic. Thoughts?

D-Blue is the answer here. It is so much more interesting and could be a conversation piece as long as you know the story of it.

It has been said often here, buy what you really want. Classic doesn’t matter, what matters is the one that sings to you…..

it always helps to see both in-person. For me, I have a Sub so that checked the black dial classic box for me. Indoors under dim lighting the Dblue dial looks black, outdoors under the sun light it really pops! Cant go wrong with either, get the one that appeals to YOU the most

Definitely the JC D-Blue for me.

I have an SD43 so the black dial would be redundant and I expect the D-Blue may be discontinued at some point.

Happy with my black 11 series.
It is the only reference that actually went down into the Mariana trench.

The gradient blue dial is what makes this reference for me.

I’d have no interest in the black dial, as there are so many already in the Rolex catalog

Buy what you’ll love looking at on your wrist. I personally would choose Blue over black. Such a great dial!

I recently wore mine while snow blowing my driveway. Not a record but notable?

I fear it will suffer the same fate as my AP ROO Diver when I had it. I found it had such a limited use as far as wearability that I couldn't justify keeping it. It was basically a short sleeve shirt only watch and that just doesn't work for me. I don't get enough ROI and I always end up selling in those cases. Was just talking about this in another thread. I think with the thickness of the DSSD the scenario would end up the same as the AP for me.

I currently have 4 watches that I can wear anytime, any place and I like that. I'd rather that than have 4 watches and only 3 of them I can pick up and wear on any given day.

I wear mine anytime, any place without hesitation. I think I probably wear this one more than any of the others. Wearability, 10 out of 10…

Black! Blue is gimmicky with the big lime green DEEPSEA in garishly large font.

That's what I thought before I saw one in the flesh.

Whether one can fully appreciate the colour scheme and meaning behind the design or not, it can't take away the inherent qualities of the reference.

Same here. I thought the D-Blue was nothing more than a gimmick, plus I used to own a black 116660, which I always thought was the “purist choice”.

But after having having seen a few in the flesh, and trying them on, I’ve really warmed to the D-Blue. If I was in the market for another DSSD it’d be the D-Blue I’d go for hands down.

Funny thing.
When it was first released I was looking at the promo pics just like everybody else.
There was much criticism of the watch with gimmicky being the main descriptor which resonated with me and one person labelling it the Deepseaweed because of the green text. If I recall correctly I may have used that name here and there as well

Things turned for me when people started posting great pics on the forums and I went to my local to arrange a hands on with one when the next one came in.

After eyeballing it the rest is history and it's a salutary lesson to everybody that we probably ought to keep an open mind and try not to be too quick to judge.

I fell in love with the JC when I saw it in person. Got this photo in the Indianapolis airport. The local AD had an add up.

I also have both the black and the blue

The blue is def more "blingy"...so it depends on my mood.

If I could only have one it would be the JC
