Am I crazy to think of adding a Polar Exp II?!

Got a black 216570 last year and it's been kind of a revelation. Very comfy on wrist, and I just like the larger design elements. Kinda stealthy for a Rolex too. It just feels like a watch I can wear 100% worry free and can take quite the beating.

My main (and probably only) concern was size, due to my 6.5 inch wrists. Probably was the main reason I went black over Polar as it wears/looks a tad smaller. But having owned it I think it looks just fine. Comfort is great, and I have a weird build as my wrists are thin but I'm 6'2" 220. So as long as it's not a straight on wrist shot, I don't think the watch looks that bad on me.

So now I'm thinking of adding a Polar. Would be the first time I'd own the exact same reference of any brand/model in different colors. It would definitely be the 6 digit, probably another 216570. I prefer them over the 5 digits. Crazy?

Nope, Polar 216570 is a great look. I've had both and still have the Polar. Really legible especially for those of us 'vision impaired" seniors.

I think you'll be fine if you feel the black is good on your wrist. I bought my niece the Polar and she has about the same size wrist but much smaller person.

Not crazy, the heart likes what the heart likes. Black versus white dials would be a different enough wearing experience and if it fits you great, makes total sense.

No. It's a great watch. My Polar fits my 6.5" wrist very comfortably. It depends on the shape of the wrist to an extent.

I wouldn’t personally but there’s nothing wrong with having options. I never owned a black 42mm ExpII, but I did have a polar at one point and it was the most legible Rolex I’ve owned.

They are awesome. I got a black 226570 last year and you perfectly describe the ownership experience and the nervousness about size. I was actually surprised how small the Exp II feels after previously owning omega/ tag diving watches and being told the Exp II was a whopper.

I find myself looking at polars as well. It’s like the black version is a stepping stone to the polar until you realise you really want both of them. Exp II seems like a relatively good value option until you realise you need two!

Are you crazy? Probably. Are you the only one? No.

Natural progression of this Rolex “hobby” getting similar watches with small differences. At least you’re still asking if you are crazy! You’re just asking the wrong group!

The Polar is great. Awesome watch. The rare white dial in the line up.

Don’t think it’s crazy at all. At one point I had 3 SMP300M. Ended up selling one now I’m down to 2. Blue dial and white dial blue bezel!

It not crazy at all. Buy and enjoy what you like. Explorer IIs are fantastic. I hope to add another one day.

Current Exp II in polar is a great watch in my opinion. 42mm is a great size. Watch wears really well on brown leather. Add it for sure.

This thread may give you the final ‘push’. https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=729209 Definitely got me thinking about getting one again.

Some of these pictures are incredible. Do not open this link unless you own a Polar Exp II or can afford to add one!

I can’t even get a polar and I have tons of watches. Great every day watch. I kind of don’t like wearing my gmts or ss sky d out anymore lots of attention.

I would never think of adding an Explorer II if not for Polar, that goes for the SS Daytona too. The white dial look in both is so special that I would buy even if I don't like the model that much. It's the white dial that makes it or breaks it for me on both in my opinion.

Think about how many TRFers have multiple GMT's, different bezels but all with the same dial!! I know a few guys who have multiple Omega 300m's as well. Nothing wrong with doing the same with the 216570!

So not crazy, it'll probably look a little bit larger but not by much. You'll love the polar.

Not crazy at all. I've gone back and forth on dial color for years and have owned both. There's no clear winner. I say go for it!

The Explorer II is a cool watch. I started with a Polar and then got the black dial. I wear the black dial now more than Polar. I have always been a Rolex diver fan but the Explorer II might be a one and only if I need/had to do it. Not sure I would not pick the black dial in the one and only scenario. Go for it.

That’s a great one-two punch. You ever wear on strap or bracelet only?

The polar is my favourite but the ghost hands really have me, I’ve had my polar 12 years now and they’re only just starting to get popular

Love the black dial with the ghost hands. I wish they had kept them on the newer reference.

Not crazy at all. If you love a reference, I don’t see anything wrong with it.
For what it’s worth from a crazy person with 2 of the same watch in different colors.

Absolutely YES to the Polar! I own multiple GMTs with the bezel colors the only difference between them. The Polar versus black dial make them two completely different watches.

OP, you have a thin wrist, have you thought about a 16570 Polar?
You might get best bang for the buck.
