Panerai been sitting idle-winding
Hello all, my first panerai a used 00560 has been sitting in its box unwound at my parents place overseas for 5 months - I have now managed to collect the watch and have wound it around 50 times - but still it wont start
Should I keep winding? am slightly nervous of winding it constantly, I haven't reached the point where its not possible to wind it further thanks |

That does not sound normal. Try winding a bit more. I usually get to 70 or 80 winds until I feel the tension spring tighten up. But, 50 winds should have got that movement moving. May need a service already

On some of my watches I give the a couple of good shakes and that gets them going. Not very sophisticated but it does work at times.

It does in all manual wind Panerais, you need a slight jumpstart.

It’s great to hear you’ve finally been reunited with your first Panerai! Given that it’s been sitting unwound for months, it may need a few extra winds to get going, especially if it’s a hand-wound movement like the 00560.
If you’ve already wound it around 50 times and it’s not showing any resistance, you could try winding it a few more times, carefully, until you feel a bit of tension. However, if it still doesn’t start after that, it might be best to have it looked at by a watchmaker, as oils can sometimes settle or thicken over time, affecting the movement. Better safe than sorry! |

I used to have to give my Pam 690 a slight shake after winding to get it going … manual wind P3000 movement
