Rootbeer Bezel Authentication
Hello. I could use your assistance in helping me authenticate a vintage 16753 GMT Master Root Beer watch I just bought.
Serial number places it as a 1979 watch. I can tell this watch isn't all original because the dial and hands have working lume that recharges with light (not tritium) and the bracelet codes say it is a Daytona bracelet from '95. Also the overall condition is just too pristine to be 43-44 years old. My main concern is that the bezel insert may not be an authentic Rolex insert because the 2's look hooked and not quite right to my eye. I'm still a novice when it comes to vintage Rolexes so i thought I'd seek your opinion on the bezel. Thanks for the help! |

You are correct, hooked 2's.. If you have other doubts, like the bracelet, post pictures including the reference numbers. |

It has a 'swiss' Service dial too, fitted from 1999 to present day.

Do you have any info on what's wrong with the dial? I figured I could goto RSC and pay to get a replacement bezel insert but if there's something not genuine about the dial then that's a bigger problem than I was expecting. Thanks!

I would wait for others to chime in. I could be wrong. It’s my opinion but to me it just seems different and for some reason right away it struck me the wrong way, but I have been wrong before. This is a dial I haven’t dealt with much before so like I said it’s my option, could be legit.

Definitely two-tone case and bracelet. I'm hoping the only non-Rolex thing on here is the bezel insert. My watch guy has opened it and says the movement is genuine and everything looks good to him but he's not an expert on nuanced things like Rolex bezel inserts.

Bracelet is good as well. Don't know why you say the code belongs to a Daytona.. |

As a 79 watch it should still have the nipple dial, even a service nipple dial with luminova and will say swiss at the bottom. Although I think the nipple dials are getting harder to find as well. The dial with larger lume plots replaced the nipple dial I believe starting around 1985-86 on the 16753. And regarding other comments, yea, two tone. Case is stainless and so is bracelet, which appears correct to me as well with a 78363, which was also placed on later 1675/3s but not the 18K version, please correct me if I am wrong.
Edit: An image but a 1675/3 service dial for a 1675/3 may or may not be Luminova, even with the T SWISS T at the bottom. I have seen these with just SWISS at the bottom that are definitely Luminova. I don't think the 1675/3 even came with a sunburst dial but perhaps with Rolex there may have been some cross over towards the end of the 1675 model run. The 16753 had a painted on crown not the gold applied crown as seen here but looks much the same aside from that. |

Great info! Yeah I wish this had that vintage nipple dial look but it's a shame it doesn't. But the main thing is I need a genuine bezel insert to make this watch right. |
