A Lange & Sohne pocket watch - any experts who can lend information?

Any ALS experts out there who can help me with info about this pocket watch.

A coworker (our IP director) knows im into watches, so he sent me this pic with the below text:

“It’s an A. Lange & Sohne pocket watch that my great grandfather bought in Geneva c. 1885. It still works. Here’s a picture.”

I asked him for pics of the movement and hallmarks, but haven’t received them yet.

Questions -
1. Is this c 1885?
2. Any idea of value? He’s considering letting it go.

Just trying to help him out. Thanks for responses.

First... Wow wow wow!

Second, he should find a quality watchmaker to open it if he's not skilled in that regard. If authentic, this could be an amazing 'find'.

Authentic.
Chronograph movement.
Appears to be a solid gold case.

Important to note, I believe this probably a lever set, or possibly a pin set.
A pin set will have a small button with 2 shoulders to protect it. The pin needs to be pushed down to set. I can't see one but it could be there.
It is more likely a lever set. You need to open the front of the case, there is typically a small lever by 2, that needs to be pulled out. The time can then be set. Then push the lever back in and close the case.

DO NOT PULL OUT THE CROWN, until you confirm it is not a lever set. If you had a picture with the front of the case open I could confirm.

It could be 1885, or the next 30 years. I don't think the grandad bought a watch in Geneva that was made in Dresden, Germany.

Just spoke to owner again today. He knows it’s not lever, but needs to get watchmaker to open the caseback to get pics of the movement. He’s also going to send me hallmarks.

There is a button on top of the crown to start/stop/reset the chronograph function.
The reason I believe it is a lever set is that it is harder to have a pendant set when you have the chronograph pusher in the center of the crown.
2nd it has a lip to open the front of the case, to easily pop it open. You don't really need that unless you have a lever set under the bezel.

I sent a PM to you back in March with my suggestions if he decides to sell the watch.
