There's just something about aluminum

and the 5-digit Pepsi that screams classic! Makes the gas runs a bit less painful when you have this to look at.

While I love my Hulk and BLNR, as well as my other modern pieces, the 16710 has a fit that's just perfect. I know many new Rolex owners think of the 5-digit series as less robust (just wait until you try a 4-digit) than the 6-digit, but I've had this for over a decade and I can tell you that it is built like a tank.

I don’t have the cool sports cars anymore but I certainly do have my cool vintage Rolexes.
Great watch car combo you have there…

I've got to agree.

I recently decided to get the Bluesy.

The 5-digit aluminum has so much more depth and character than the cerachrom (which looks like a flat-blue Lego to me).

Also, the case has much more pleasing shape and profile than the Maxi Case 116613LB. I do like the case of the 126613LB, but I don't like the white text (should be gold) or the cerachrom bezel.

Beautiful! 5 digits were about the peak of Rolex IMO. I own mostly 6 digits now, but you just can’t beat a good 5 digit

Amen! Love any 5-digit Rolex with an aluminum bezel! Planning swap to the Pepsi insert on my 16710 for the summer

I quite like the look of Aluminium bezels. I get why they went for ceramic but faded aluminium is quite appealing on the vintage models.

The aluminium bezels on the models that can do bezel swaps are great partly because the risk of changing them is low - not much risk of breakage.

The 16710 is a very versatile watch get all 3 inserts then three watches for the price of one.Inserts not real expensive direct from Rolex, and quite easy to replace which is a lot different from the cost and ease of replacement of the ceramic inserts.

Get jubilee and oyster and you have basically 6 watches
This is so much better philosophy than buying separate modern GMT's.

Does anyone really think that the 5 digit are less robust than the 6 digit? Other way around in my opinion.

I would say that's the thinking of those new to Rolex, or at least the ones that have only had a 6-digit.

Newer always equals better, right?

The 6 digits definitely feel and sound sturdier. That's about it. Perception.

Subjectively, yes. But we know that bigger and heavier isn’t always better.

Objectively, yes, the 5 digits are more robust

We know how brittle ceramic is. And we’ve also seen 6 digit clasp spot weld failures on this forum.

Much as I adore my CHNR, I know which watch is being strapped on for the zombie apocalypse (assuming I can’t get to any of my solar powered G Shocks )

Yep. The one in the picture above.
