Is my winding crown not genuine?
So my dad gave me his Explorer 2 16570 he brought back in 1990. He had it serviced 7 years ago but was from an unknown 3rd party.
Having looked around and comparing my Explorer 2 Ive noticed my winding crown logo is a bit smaller. Just wanted to make sure if the 3rd party might have given the watch a non-genuine watch crown? I could be overthinking and this might be the same crown that came with it but wanted to know your opinion. Do rolex have different sized crown logos? see attached picture comparison* |

Yours looks right to me and like what I had on mine years ago. The commercial pic looks a bit wide. Someone who actually has the watch should be able to compare.

Your crown photo is a bit fuzzy and maybe the crown edges have been polished making it look smaller. Someone will chime in with something more definitive.

My K series. It has been polished by RSC in the past.

I’m not that familiar with the details but don’t the sports watches have 2 or 3 dots under the crown, indicating the internal seals??

chieftd posted a good in depth article, but in general the SS Twinlock crown, which the Explorer II has, includes a straight line. The markings on this watch are right in concept (ie it should be the crown with a line underneath). I think the spacing/placement of the marks is what OP is questioning.

I believe that the different indicators are for different crown construction types, as well as to indicate whether a PM crown belongs on a full-PM or TT watch, again, with a couple of exceptions. One dot, two dots, or a line all indicate twin-lock seals. This list would also seem dated, as there's no platinum trip-lock, which came out with the Daytona. |

One possibility is that it's been polished too much and has shrunk a little as a result. The thing that bothers me is the placement of the line beneath the coronet logo. It's too high up, and should be closer to the edge. While the size and shape could change with polishing, the position wouldn't.
