I need a drink!

anyone ever worked with a psychotic boss? this is what i have to deal with on a regular basis. this is not made up and i am not kidding you!!!

i work for this super wealthy guy who happens to own an investment banking firm (not going mention the name or the location). outside of the office he is a smooth operator...well spoken, very charming, well groomed, very intelligent, and people love doing business with him.

inside the office is where the charm ends. i work with another guy who is much older than i am (49). we're the main foks behind the due diligence/analysis and we both talk in the office at times....my psycho boss yells, "you two shut the f**k up!" another example is when i have to put up with him when i hand him the due diligence on a certain company that i have worked on. if he's not satisfied with it, he slams his hand on the table and tears the report right in front of me....and starts to curse me out. here what he actually said, "are you f***ing stupid, what the f**k is this sh*t, i can't believe you went college for this f**ng crap, you are going to stay here tonight past midnight and finish this sh*t up, by the way what would you like for me to order for dinner before i head out of the office tonight?" the man pays my bills....so i just have to swallow it up and clench my fists. i'll admit he's good at what he's doing. however, i do need a drink!

After my day, I'll have a drink with you. I plan on getting completely sloppy later.

When you and this dickhead are calm, ask to talk privately and explain that you have no problem with constructive criticism but you would appreciate it if he would delete the abusive language. If that doesn't work I would plan an exit on your terms.

good luck and don't drink too much tonight.

As a boss i can say that we sometimes lose our cool and sometimes for whatever reason; stress, not getting any, just got yelled at by a client, stupidity, or whatever we may do something like that, being human we will deserve at least one pass, maybe even two.... BUT if it were to continue tell this guy where to go and find something else.... the money is important, but take it from an old guy the aggravation is not worth it.

He may pay your bills but if you're talented in your field its time to move on. My boss would only have to speak to me that way once and that would be it.

the secretary came in crying one time....she got into a car accident. she kept on crying and crying as her car was totaled. so my boss goes..."i am glad your safe, how old is the car?" wrote her a check for $17K and told her to shut up and get back to work. i guess the man is brutal but cares.

There'll be plenty of time to get tilted this weekend. For now, . . .

Spend more time learning why he is good at what he does.
Compare a copy of rejected analysis with the tweaked version.
Note [with actual notes] his decisions, especially the ones with which you don't agree or understand.
Days, weeks, months later, when the decision comes full circle, you have a better idea into his thinking process.

Wouldn't you agree that there is probably a reason he is super-wealthy?

BTW, there is also a reason it's called ANALysis.

Super-wealthy-ness aside.

A boss also needs to treat those that help him earn his money a whole lot differently than that.

I'd join you for a sociable, Anthony, but I don't drink on school nights.

I could live with everything he said up until "are you f***ing stupid". That would have put me over the edge.
Most people who over react like that are incredibly insecure. As was already pointed out, learn what you can from the man and move on.
Enjoy your cocktail tonight
