Buying off ebay?

So i am thinking of a beater rolex i know no such thing…my threshold would be under 10 . I own one that is old and beautiful and is super sentimental thus cant be replaced. My question is after hearing and reading buy the seller dont wire money have watch in hand. How about a reputable seller on ebay one seen here and with many thousands of five star ratings. I like the authenticity guarantee, how the money goes into escrow and u have a three day grace period. I will ask about last service and time keeping. Thinking mid 90s era gmt or sub date. I will anticipate sending it to rolex for service. I just want a quality piece nothing to perfect so if i find myself mowing the lawn or swimming around the boat with it on i wont freak and need to put it away. Few nicks a scratches or a non original bracelet are what i desire. I consider it like buying a used lexus. One i am not afraid to put in a parking garage or valet. Pitfalls experience thoughts? thanks for all the knowledge given out here. Sincerely

Nothing wrong with that. Just do your due diligence. I wouldn't send it to Rolex for service. A reputable vintage watchmaker will do.

If that's what you want, go for it! I recently did the same - picked up a 16570 black dial for $6500, watch only. Turns out, it's nicer than I thought - hardly a nick or scratch! Runs a little fast but I have no plans to send it in for service anytime soon. Tried it out on a jubilee for a couple weeks too.

Wow that looks like a great watch for $6500. I guess that model is back to price levels from several years ago.

Had a bad experience (non watch related)

As far as watches, I am quite certain that they open the case back at inspection so issue please beware

Ebay is a strong option as long as you know what you are looking at and know how to check out what you bought without affecting the ability to return it for refund if needed.

I’ve bought from eBay. Most recently a vintage Tudor 7017. Above a certain price they’re sent off for authorisation. I check who carried it out & in the UK they’re well-respected. Watch arrived as described.

In the past year, I've purchased an AP, VC, Fortis, Cartier, Zenith, and Hermes from ebay and all have been great transactions. I will say that the Cartier was SLIGHTLY worse condition than advertised, but, for the price I paid, I decided not to pursue it with the seller as the difference really was nominal.

I bought 3 Rolex off eBay over the years. All went very smooth. It was before the authenticity guarantee program. I recently bought a new gold sub bracelet for my 16808 off eBay. Never an issue.

I buy a lot of coins. I had one arrive damaged and eBay stepped in and resolved the issue quickly. The seller wouldn’t give a refund so eBay reimbursed me and allowed me to keep the damaged coin. This was a $2,600 coin. I would feel very safe using eBay.
