A vintage from 1999...!

It looks quite ok. Serviced in a UK RSC, I would say, based on those side case stickers they tend to put. And in 2023, so it is essentially worry-free for the next many years. The case retains some of the original chamfers, the dial is correct (SWISS only), and the bracelet is correct (X matches the 1999 case). The bezel insert may or may not have been changed (probably changed given how good it looks). If you don't care about having an untouched watch with serviced parts, as many vintage-lovers here do, then it's is a great watch-only example to get and wear.

Very nice neo vintage if the dial is original the watch looks new. It would make a nice daily wear.

Unsure whether it’s the case with the GMT, but on 5-digit Subs the SWISS only mark was also used on service dials, as well as that short transitional period. Which means there are plenty of watches that get sold with “SWISS only” as a selling point, when in fact it’s because the original dial was replaced during a service.

The serial number would clarify that point for watches outside of the 1999ish range.

A and U are broadly legit SWISS dial pieces. So it's fine.

The box set looks fine for the watch you purchased.

Looks very similar to my A-serial 16700 full set (with guarantee paper) bought on July 19, 1999, at an AD in Kyoto, Japan. Still had the case sticker on when I got it. My calendar is also 1999-2000, and both of my booklets are dated for June 1998, which is normal. Booklets that come with sets are usually dated 1-3 years before the sale date and/or serial date of the watch.

So, if you wanted to be a real stickler, you wouldn't want booklets dated the same year as the watch, although in your case, it seems as if you don't know exactly when your watch was originally sold, only approximately, so it probably doesn't matter.
