need help with selling my rolex to an unknown person
Hi there, someone contacted me about my rolex I'm advertising and wants me to meet him at his recommended watch store so that he can authenticate. I'm not sure if this is a scam, can someone recommend the best way to deal with a buyer in this situation? I'm concerned that he just takes off with it since it's not in a mall or the store doesn't have security.
thanks AM |

That should be part of the negotiation for the watch. Along with the price, you both should agree on the terms of the sale, including when, where and authentication details.
If you don’t feel comfortable with what this person is proposing, and they’re not willing to work with you, walk away from the deal. |

Can you visit the watch store alone prior to setting up time/day, so you can check it out if is a safe meeting place? If the deal does not sound right, do not plan on meeting up with the buyer. |

The said watch shop, make sure it has security camera, working etc... does the front door lock and unlock if controlled by the store owner. Is location nearby police station, are some of my concerns.

I have it on ebay and the buyer reached out to me wanting to meet and see the watch in person since he's local.

This stinks of a scam! You're the seller and the buyer is telling you what to do. Be a real whiz and walk away while you still can.

need help with selling my rolex to an unknown person
There was a very long thread here a couple months ago that started out exactly like this. The seller ended up getting robbed for his platinum DD. The “buyer” snatched the watch and ran out of the store. Also took place at a watch store.
Be very careful. I would not meet anyone without strong references and/or a strong TRF presence. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

thanks for the great feedback
The link you provided fits the exact scenario wherein the guy with the Daytona got robbed. Thank you so much for this helpful info. I would have ended up in the same situation.

You could tell them to meet you at a different jeweler of your liking or a police station or even a well secured bank if they just want to see it first before moving forward.

Way to be a real whiz and avoid getting robbed! Just sell it on eBay as Kevin notes or take a minor haircut and sell it to a real seller on this forum Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

There has been a few instances of a meet up going bad with a grab and run reported over the last few years. Not worth the risk these days!

Don’t do it, just keep it listed on eBay and sell it there. eBay will verify the watch for the local buyer.

What good is asking for advice if you don't heed the warnings regardless if it's the same guy?
