Explored Vegas - But Won Jackpot at Home!

Before heading for a fun week in Las Vegas last Feb, I stopped by my local AD to take a close look at the Explorer II w/ Black dial. As expected, I was shown a presentation piece, but it still looked great. The SA offered to put me on their list for a new one, so I provided my contact details. While in Vegas, I visited every Rolex shop, but no one had any new stock, just presentation pieces. I was added to their wait lists, knowing that if/when they called, I would have to fly into Vegas within 2 days to make the required in-person purchase.
Fast forward now to last Friday: my local AD called to offer me a new black Explorer II, which I picked up yesterday...after being on their wait list for only 2 months.
Last night I placed the watch on the night stand next to my bed to check the Chromalight glow, which was still going strong this morning.
So, I was not lucky in Vegas, but I sure hit the jackpot back home!

I wonder why they gave you the old presentation box design?

Not sure about old vs new box. I just grabbed one of my nearby boxes to take the photo. The box they gave me is similar, but has a drop down panel to store the booklet, etc. Does this sound right?

Congrats, Sgootter! And regarding your green box, yes, you're correct, the most recent ones have the drop down panel as you described.

Great result. Congratulations.

Once my vision is properly dark adapted, I find the lume on my Polar to be long lasting and legible right through to the next day.

Congrats. I have a black 216 and I love it. 216 was my first new A D purchase back in 2012.

Congratulations! That’s a great watch. I think on the 22 series the black dial the way to go. Works so well with the orange.

Boxes are completely separate from their watches when they arrive in their coffins and are sometimes shipped later. Typically an AD will find tagged with the same model number on the outside sleeve. As long as it has the correct papers and tags, don't really care what style box it is.
