Help me build a collection for $30,000

Looking at buying used or at current market prices. Here's what I already have and won't sell:

1). Zenith Chronomaster Sport (the "land" watch)
2). Omega Speedmaster Rising Sun Tokyo (space)
3). Grand Seiko SBGY003 (dress)

Looking to add staples and a few different pieces. Couple of thoughts I'm playing around with

1). Batman 116710BLNR and a Rolex Starbucks. Both used, available at around 30k from Japan
2). Go crazy and spend it all on a Daytona. But this would result in too many chronographs...
3). Get only one Rolex GMT and get a Glashutte Seaq instead
4). Buy a lange 1815 and a submariner instead
5). Get a Snoopy and submariner

Anyways you get the jist. Please go crazy! Would love your thoughts!

I think sub/GMT is the perfect Rolex sports watch combo, but I am biased.

For chrono, I am a Speedy fan (which you already have covered), and I plan to add the sapphire sandwich someday. I personally don't like Daytonas and think they are grossly over priced. But even if you like them, as you said you already have a couple of chrono options... So maybe offload one of those and pickup a Tudor or something else with that money if you go the Daytona route?

No offence mate but your definition of going crazy might be quite different to mine, certainly spending 30k on Rolex wouldn't be in my book! Perhaps 30k on a franck muller or Jacob & co

30k on a Rolex would not be in your book ?
But a Franck Muller or Jacob & Co. would ?
Forgive me for my bluntness, having been
in the watch trading business for decades !
Either one of your 30k choices ? …Is a sure way
to say bye bye to the value of the largest portion of 30k.

I don't recall either OP Youth Against mentioning anything about going into the watch trading business.

You have a very nice collection and some cool goals. I'd def get at least one Rolex. Something utilitarian and iconic like the GMT II or Sub. I think the GS is a good proxy for the iconic DJ.

Forget the Daytona at the secondary price, it's not worth it, IMO.

See my comment to JSolution as well

Sub + GMT. Just wait for the AD and buy something cheap and cheerful in the meantime (Sinn, Tudor, Doxa, Seiko).

OP, no disrespect but asking for a collection suggestion with a $30,000 budget on TRF which is partial to PM Rolex...

I'd suggest this,

1. Submariner or Explorer
2. Omega Speedmaster or Tudor Chrono
3. Rolex GMT II or Explorer II

You may have to skip a little and may not be able to get the latest gen but the above is very much workable with a 30K budget and I think makes for a killer connection. You can change the Speedie to a Tudor but I like Omega much more.

SS Sub or SS GMT
TT DJ 41 (Your choice yellow or rose)

You should have some change leftover as well! You can pick up a used speedy with that.

So you got land, air or sea, and elegant.

Starbucks/ Batman. Two of the best Rolex makes. I’d add a little and get the Pepsi on jubilee for even more diversity in your collection. Or a Batman on jubilee.

Get the GMT and Sub, great Rolex duo!

Or……get just a 126619LB white gold Sub, you won’t be sorry!

What ever decision you make, it needs to end up with you owning a Submariner of whatever flavour you like best.

If ever I needed a reminder that I’m too poor for this hobby, it’s seeing this. Asking a few thousand people to theoretically buy a watch or two for 30k and the most common response is “that’s not enough money.” Lol.

Your BLNR/ LV option is pretty good. You could get the latest and greatest if you make it polar explorer II and LV. That gives you your GMT function/ movement, two dial colours in your Rolex, different bezels. It gets you a sub and another sports watch. And both with latest movements/ longest power reserve.

Even buying grey U.K. prices, that’s about £9,500 and £13,500 respectively which is a little under $30k.

I know exactly what you mean! I’m guilty though of having ‘champagne tastes on a beer budget’ when it comes to watches.
