Have you asked Rolex? They are the only ones who might know. If you send the watch to an official Rolex Service Center for a service, they will require you to replace the dial, and they might give you that information.

On the other hand, I don't personally think you need to worry about which dial the watch had originally. Just get an authentic dial that you like.

I am working on this now with my dads Datejust. I’m hunting for dials. I finally had my dads watch case and bezel repaired correctly (1986). The dial isn’t original.

If y’all post your first 3 serial #s and show me watch I’ll try to help. I am fiercely looking and comparing unpolished/box papers watches of same time period.

I love two-tone Rolex DJs and sport watches. But especially DJs. But then, I am a boomer....Nice linen dial there.

My dad bought this new in 86 in Dallas TX when he took his first Bank CEO position. This is the quintessential 80’s/90’s banker watch if you ask me.

I have my Dad's Datejust that looks identical to Tenno's and I need to get it overhauled. I'm wondering if anyone can enlighten or advise me as to the current rough estimate for an overhaul from an AD. Or would I be better to go to Gio at Independent Watch ? This was my Dad's watch which I inherited 30 years ago and had it overhauled at the local AD when I first got it. It was totally beat to hell when I received it. New Bezel and stem/crown. I apologize if I'm using the wrong terms.
I just want to be psycologically prepared for what its going to cost. And wondering if I should go to an AD or use Independent Watch. Just looking for a ballpark cost and some advice. I'm not a collector or even that knowledgable with Rolex watches. I've lurked on this site for years but I'm guessing this is my first post. And apologize in advance if I'm hijacking the thread. Should I post a new thread to ask this.

This is my daily wearing watch so it takes a beating.

Thanks in advance- Tim

There is no standard price from an AD. Some have an in-house watchmaker and some send it out and mark up the price. That said, you should probably budget at least $750. And if parts are needed, it could easily exceed $1k.

You might find a local independent who would service the movement for under $500.

Rolex will still service a 5-digit DJ, so you could also send it directly to the Dallas RSC, which is probably a better option than most ADs, IMO.
