Is Houston safe?

Hello all, I will be travelling to Houston and wanted to take my GMT with me, however, after I seen the post about robbery in San Antonio I start to afraid a bit. during the day i will be in the office so no issue, but evenings I would like to explore the city and the second things is at the airport, if the will want me to tak off the watch.

I guess, If I ask this question, rather keep them home? Thanks

It's not safe. Suggest you wear a Casio instead.

Yes you’re fine. There’s threat everywhere. Get insurance and worry less

Edit: nvm just don't wear a watch

Yes it's safe.

Guide to tourists entering the USA: Don't visit the 'hood' or other bad part of town and you'll be ok.

Virtually every large city in the US will have good & bad areas.

For example Chicago, the armpit of America, is such an easy example:

As a Chicago resident, I can attest that a lot has changed since this graph was published using 2020-2021 data.

Lincoln Park is more prone to theft than a lot of other neighborhoods- whereas Logan Square has gotten a bit safer.

But your general point stands: common sense goes a long way. And just because you're in a safe area doesn't mean you should necessarily let your guard down completely.

It's a city. Sh-t happens

Agreed - I use to live in Bucktown before moving to the Burbs, you have to use common sense wherever you go.

I would not wear a nice watch on the CTA.

I would hardly call Chicago the armpit of America. Have you visited Newark, NJ or Bakersfield, CA? Chicago is a spectacular town and one of the few places in the midwest I would live if I had to move to the midwest.

Oh gosh. There's a reason why Chicago was the inspiration for Gotham City I've spent enough time there to know.
- Inspired by Chicago
- Filmed in Chicago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotham_City

Chicago has so much crime the entire news industry is numb to it. It's a war zone.

I was there in April for a concert and wore a modern sub the whole time. If you are going out at night be aware of your surroundings like any other major city and you’ll be fine.

Just like anyplace you go, be mindful of your surroundings. I live in NYC and wear my watches daily, including the subway but I’m mindful of where I go and who’s around me.

If you are afraid about to wear a watch - then do not wear it.

Being a Texan, plus having a career where I spent a lot of time in all the major cities on business, I’d rate Houston as the most dangerous and one needs to be extra careful. I may be somewhat biased, for it’s the only time in my 30+ year career that I almost got robbed.
One of my co workers in town was robbed one morning heading to his car in the Hotel parking lot. It was supposedly one of the better areas. Another friend had his vehicle stolen over night, again at a very nice hotel in a good area. Ironically it’s the supposedly safer areas one should probably be more concerned for the smart thieves know that’s where the money is. Just be very aware of your surroundings, like any big city in the world and definitely don’t go clubbing and showing it off.

Are cities safe?

Most of the time = yes. Sometimes = no.

Good luck

They won't require you to remove the watch when going through airport security.

Houston has a liberal catch and release policy when it comes to criminals so you better beware.

Lots of repeat offenders running lose up to no good.

I live west of Houston, but work in Houston, I also wear my GMT everyday.

Be mindful of your surroundings, don't leave Laptop bags/backpacks visible in your rental car. If you go out to dinner and park a car then take your laptop bag with you to the restaurant. Don't put your bag in the trunk of the car right before you go in to eat. Just take the bag inside with you, OR go back to the hotel and drop off your bag.

If you go out drinking later on, don't walk back, take an uber.

Enjoy Houston, there are a lot of great restaurants in the city, as well as other places to visit

Same here. Live in Katy and work in Houston while wearing my Sub. No issue. Night time might be different. I just be aware of my surroundings. Most of the time no one notices.

Yeah, it happens. Used to work in the Westchase area, and we had a lot of people get their laptop bags taken. Its just easier to bring it in with you.
