OK, here's my personal preference/opinion.

To me, TTs take a watch to the next level. I love 'em. My first two were TTs (DJ and GMTII). I like the way the bi-metal accents a watch. I don't really see bling in my eyes until diamonds start flashing (and I do like the serti dials on the TT subs).

As for the perceived bias against TTs ... I have a feeling that if they were not so much higher priced than SS watches, they would be more popular. People seem to be willing to pay extra for a "hot" TT, such as the blue sub, so I don't think the bias is at the bottom line necessarily an anti-TT bias. I've had more than one dealer tell me the TT blue sub is their top-selling sport watch.

And again, I don't buy the "bling" argument. The idea that you need to dress down a Rolex to achieve understatement and relative obscurity seems weird to me. It would be like removing the hood ornament on a Mercedes in hopes of disguising its make.

And, since I'm on a roll here (hopefully not too controversial), I'm wondering whether anyone has ever seen the actual sales figures on TT Daytonas. There seems to be something of an inherently contradictory argument made on Rolex forums to the effect that they are not big sellers. This point is often made in the same paragraph as an assertion that Rolex makes more of the TT Daytonas than the SS Daytonas because the profit margin is bigger on the TT.

Now, the former argument that they don't sell seems to be at odds with the profit margin idea. Also, why would Rolex continue making so many pieces of such a low seller in so many forms (how many dial versions are there?)?

In the land where stainless/white metal is definitely king (i.e., Japan), I see TT Daytonas worn often. As for TT Daytona resale value, I have some personal experience in that area. I bought one three years ago (TT, white dial) new at just at $8000 USD and sold it under a year later to a dealer for $7000 USD to partially finance another purchase. That's not too bad in my estimation.

I am not anti-stainless. I have had various stainless watches. I currently own a SS Daytona that I love and have previously owned a SS Yachtmaster that I also loved. I have long wanted an Explorer II, but it has fallen victim to my fascination with the Daytona.

In the end, however, beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

Difficult question to answer JJ.. i think every collection should have a TT model, but i would not wear it as ana every day watch as i prefder the understatement of ss. My omega AT TT is used for more formal occasions were a TT can be carried off more easily.
In terms of subs i prefer ss ones, and if they ever made the SD in TT.. i wouls still buy the ss one even if the TT was the same price!.
the only 2 sports rolex models i have seen in TT which i like are the YM and balck TT sub.

For me, it's not a price issue...I just do not like yellow gold. Not just on watches, but jewelry too. If the SS Sub was MORE expensive than the TT, I'd still buy the SS over TT. Maybe I'm crazy!

Maybe technically....but not in my book. I wouldn't consider the platinum/SS YM a TT watch, but I guess it is. If so, I may own a TT watch one day.

I had to withhold my vote on this one JJ. I don't hate the TT line, too strong of a word, I am not a huge fan though. I like them in the DJ models especially. I think that they are very beautiful, like the 16613 that I used to own, but they are still not for me.

Well, I spent the day in Tokyo in watch shops. I'm negotiating the possible purchase of a Brequet 3800 Type XX, though I am not sure I'm ready to go for it. It's a SS watch on a croc strap and is absolutely stunning. I took a quick look at the SS GMTs and Subs, but I'm in the mood for a strap instead of a bracelet, the strap Daytonas are just too expensive, and I've been admiring this Brequet for some time now. Anyone here have any experience with Brequet, especially this model (it's the non-date model)?

That's right and that Transatlantique is one HOT HOT watch! Much nicer than the Rolex Daytona could ever even try to be.

Bruce said it was his one 'keeper' watch in his collection... and I believe it was recently sold to finance a Panerai.

Hmm - like Daren, I find "hate' too strong a term. I prefer the all-SS look of my SD any day, but when the mood grabs me I'm not averse to wearing my TT DJ.
