If you only had one PM piece between these 3

Price aside and you could only have one PM piece in your collection... which option would you go with.

228239- Meteorite DD40 paired with a 126610LN
228206- DD40 motif dial (would be the only watch due to the smooth bezel). I know some people like the fluted, but for an everyday piece smooth is the way to go and would be the only option in plat for me. I've been envious with a friend who rocks a bluesy everyday no matter what. Id like to get there someday and I believe this watch could check all the boxes.
116519LN- Ghost dial paired with a 126610LN- (current set up)

* Please note... I own/owned all of these pieces at one point (sold DD's to get back into boating)

Quick pros and cons for each watch from wear experience.

116519LN
Pro: Best dial IMO in the daytona range. Comfortable to wear and versatile.
Con: Chronograph is useless to me and I love the date complication since I use it constantly with my watches (yes its a simple complication, but practical)

228239:
Pro: Best dial in the WG range. Each dial is piece unique
Con: Could not really be a daily due to the fluted bezel and dial makes it more dressy IMO . Some people complain about no adjustment option, but I never had that issue with DDs. Setting the time is a pain since there is there are no railroad tracks like other dials to set the time.

228206:
Pro: Boss piece. Very versatile. Lumed sticks makes it a watch you can wear with a suit or go hang out with t-shirt and shorts
Con: Would be the only piece in the collection. Smooth bezel can get messed up and show vs fluted (although I dented a few fluted bezels in my day)

Let the fun Begin!

I'm currently hunting down that exact platinum day date and thinking about trading a piece or two for it so it would be my pick right now.
However, the wg dd40 with meteorite is pretty hard to pass up too. Tough tough tough...

Also, (if we can change the rules) I'd want one of the DD's paired with the daytona vs the sub. The Oyster Flex is just so damn sporty and comfortable

If the platinum Day Date that you want is the one that is pictured here, I would stray far away. That thing is so polished/rounded off it should have planets orbiting it

Can't do both and only want one PM piece... as much as I love my ghost... the non date function always picked at me. Ive been in and out of Daytona's due to that lol. It is one of the best aesthetically watches to own and by far very comfortable. You can rock it daily without worrying about beating up your PM watch.

That is a nice watch. I am surprised it trades under list. Definitely underrated and great value. The OF line is great.

That one is gone... and it wasn't polished as you say (could be the angle). I got that years ago and it was only a few months old when I got it. The only thing Rolex said it needed was a new crown since it was dinged a little (which I did) when it was sent in (ran 20 secs fast a day)

As much as I love the 519, I would have to go with the DD and the sub. Those two would cover a LOT of ground, IMO.

I agree that a smooth bezel is better for daily wear as it's more versatile. It's a bummer the current DD isn't offered with a smooth bezel.

I think the two cons I bolded above aren't necessarily cons - having a one watch collection sounds nice as you'll appreciate it more and have less to stress about in terms of servicing/maintaining, and sure the smooth bezel can get messed up, but it can also be polished without ruining it, unlike the fluted. So for me, 228206 is the answer. IF the meteorite was offered with a smooth bezel, that would be my vote.

Also as an aside, the lack of RR track wouldn't bother me on the Meteorite, you just have to set the time on a 5 minute marker to get it perfect. A small inconvenience for what to me is a cleaner aesthetic. But the blue dial on the 228206 is great too.

Meteorite is available in the 228206. The best part thing about platinum is that the metal moves around and could be pushed back with a good polishing.. it doesn't shave off like gold (but you need to have a person who knows what their doing). I thought about the meteorite piece, but to me its always been on the dressier side and could not be that one and done.

When I owned the 228239, I always set it on the 5 minute baguette too (funny you gotta do what you gotta do to make the time accurate). I do own other watches, but these would be my modern day rolex(s).

I like the DD with the meteorite dial best. I agree the platinum watch looked polished to so so looking softness.

DD 206. The ultimate in PM versatility, and that Glacier blue is one of the best Rolex dials ever made !

After 63 votes… option 1, then 3, then 2….. however, its almost equal across the board.

After 77 votes....option 3 takes the lead by 1, option 1 is second (my current setup) and option 2 is not far behind. The community is split across the board based on on how close everything is. I was pretty sure there would be a heavy winner that you see in most polls (well at least to this point).

My write ups are based on my experience with these particular watches. Do you own or owned these watches to provide additional insight? These options are what I like vs what you may like.

I vote “none of the above”. How about the light blue platinum Daytona? It’s more striking than your three options, IMO.

DDII. Future classic.

Short production run, best dial color ever, solid wrist presence, somewhat stealthy.
