First Rolex

Hi, I am looking for a bit of advice.

I bought my first Rolex today (16233 two tone with Champagne dial)

I decided to go with a household jeweller in the Uk to give me a bit more peace of mind. I probably paid over the odds, but I wanted a mint watch.

Hopefully somebody can help me with a few questions.

Q – It came with original papers and box. I noticed that the booklet has 1996 date on the back, but the papers show 1990?
Q – On the papers it shows Singapore, does this just mean that it was sold there?
Q – The jeweller has told me the watch has been checked to authenticate it, is there anything I can do in addition to this just to be on the safe side? It comes with a water proof test and a receipt from the watch register.

Thanks
John

Welcome to the forum John.

It seems as though they just found booklets relating to 1996 and supplied this with your watch, not the end of the world but a bit sneaky if you ask me.

If the watch papers state Singapore then the watch was sold in Singapore.

You can take the watch to Rolex for piece of mind.

Congrats!!

That was my first Rolex as well, it's a classic staple in any collection.

Q1-It's possible they added a booklet from another model year, to complete the set however I would go by what is on the papers.
Q2- Very likely.
Q3-Honestly this is something you should of done before purchasing, you can always take it to another watch jeweler and ask them to open it up to check it's authenticity.

Hi John welcome to the forum and congrats on your watch!

It does sound like they gave you a booklet from a different year to complete the set. Not the end of the world, but means they likely had it sold or traded into them without the booklet.

For authentication you can take it to any RSC (Rolex Service Center) and request a service estimate. Just tell them you just bought it and want to see if it needs any servicing. If for some reason any parts aren’t genuine Rolex they’ll put it in the service estimate for you so you’ll have peace of mind that the watch is real.

Thanks Carguy - RSC (Rolex Service Centre) and request a service estimate - I think I will do this just so I know for certain. The Jeweller is mainstream and I can imagine they would trade a fake but Its more for my peace of mind.

The watch is also a little bit big for me, would you take it to a local Jeweller to size? Thanks

Congrats! Take it back to the dealer, and have them size it for you, or just buy a cheap set of Watch tools, on Amazon, and do it yourself.
