Rolex in Turkey

Hi,

I was looking to by a GMT or Submariner I Turkey, through a jewelery store I have bought gold/diamonds before. He found a 126710BLNR and 126610LV new 2023 models for 19.700 and 19.200 USD, via he contacts.

This is a lot higher then what they cost in my home country Norway were they are 11.7-12000 usd.

My question is, does anyone know why they are higher? Is there some kind of luxury tax in Turkey (can't find one)? Anyone recently bought a watch in turkey to use as reference in the "price across countries" thread? Some difference is ofcourse from currency rates, but seems to big to be the only explanation.

Thank you for all help.

Currency volatility more than likely; Turkish Lira has been very volatile and has lost significant value over the past couple of years. The high price is probably to hedge against future volatility (and subject to adjustment)

Imagine they are not a Rolex dealer; probably sourcing them through a third party which is profiting on the sale, thus the higher price

I assume you are talking about other dealers, not AD's. I'm sure you already know you can't get these watches by asking from any AD in any country. And you also can't get them for retail price if you are not getting these watches from an AD.

Also, AD's are not selling to non-residents (even if you are not living in same city with AD) in Turkey. Most of AD's in other countries are same.

I believe these are close to fair prices for unworn 2023 watches in market for any country. Used ones can be $15-18.

Watch out Turkey is one of the major centres for highest quality fakes.

Exactly, there's no way I would be buying the BLRO as an expat or tourist in Turkey with no methods of recourse. They are known for counterfeiting everything there.

Why don't you just hold on and purchase the watch in your home country, especially since it's cheaper, not to mention it's much safer.

Thanks for all the replies. To answer some of the comments/questions.

Getting on a list in Norway is hard, since they sell alot to foreigners, because they are cheap (relativly speaking). So don't view getting a new one there, at best å new unused.

I do trust him, known ³him for 10 years. So I am confident the watches are real. But as he said himself, he is not a watch guy, so he doesn't know the prices that well. He said it was from official rolex store, but will ask him again and get the specific store.

Hopefully someone who has recently bought a watch in turkey can comment, to get a reference of sorts.

You already got your comment up there, what specific detail you are asking for?

These prices are not possibly coming from any official Rolex Store (AD) - so not a true information he gave you. Like you say, he is not a watch guy obviously.

You can always buy any watch in Turkey. Just don't buy it from grand bazaar or such touristic places like that. Just like "any other country" there are lots of fakes. It all depends where you are shopping. Just stay away from grand bazaar and that part of the city for any luxury brand.

You can't buy anything from AD. There are also many established dealers like Art Jewelery, Sadan, Watch with Love (Hasan Keydal), Bedesten Watches. You can't go wrong with any of them, i personally choose Art (in Zorlu Center - Istanbul) if i'm not buying directly from AD.

Why buy grey in Turkey if you can buy grey in Norway

Assume the price in Norway is an AD MSRP, whereas the price in Turkey was for a secondary market watch.

Personally, I'd struggle to buy anything in Turkey with any faith that it's legitimate - as a young guy many years ago, I used to pay for my holidays to Turkey (and some) by buying fake everything and selling it all on my return - bags, watches, belts, shirts, scarves, even socks and boxers etc etc - the majority of the products were even packaged and labeled as per the originals.

I know, I know... as I said, it was a long time ago and in my defense I was a skint kid!
