First Rolex (DJ41) Help

Hello All,
I recently purchased my first rolex.
I want this to be a versatile timepiece as I do not own any other Rolexes and likely won't purchase anymore (at least for the near future).
Hence, I went with the Datejust 41, Oyster/Fluted, Slate Dial. Waited about 12 months from an AD for this specific configuration.
I am content with the oyster/fluted. I feel like it increases the versatility and I can wear it with a polo/jeans as well as dressier attire like a blazer.
I am also happy with the slate for it's versatility.
The AD did not have a 36 DJ to compare it but I tried on a 36mm Oyster Perpetual and it was too small for my taste.
After I purchased it, I went down the rabbit hole of what DJ sizes to purchase and am now wondering if the 41mm is too big. So, I would like some assurance that I made the right decision.
Of note, I understand the "rolex purists" will say only 36mm on DJ, but I am more concerned on the look and versatility as opposed to being a purist.
Thanks for your help.

I don't know any "purists" who would say 36mm DJ's only.

Looks good, enjoy it.

Great choice for a 1st Rolex and the size is perfect - Wear it, enjoy it and don't give the case size another thought. Cheers!

Not related to your size but I generally think for anyone dj41 is too big and dd36 is too small.
It’s only because I think with day the 36mm dial is foo busy, and without day 41mm dial is too empty.
I have a dj36 and I’m waiting for a dd40. I have a tiny wrist (only 16cm) and I have tried both, they look ok. But I don’t like empty or busy dial.
It’s just me

I hear you, but the day date was not an option for me given the difference in price. Cannot really compare the DJ and DD given significant price difference.

I would go against crowd here. Your wrist looks like 6.5-7"?
DJ41 looks ok, but I think DJ36 would be better and more elegant.
Besides, with that big dial Romans instead of sticks would be better filling the space

Looks very good to me except 5 but that’s just the angle. It’s the modern version of the datejust so sizing is right for now and likely will remain fashionable for years to come. Lovely watch.

Loads of stuff has got bigger over the years - cars, phones, beds. Would you want to sleep in a 1950s sized double bed or drive around in a 70s sized car?

I have 6.8 in wrists and I wear a 40 mm DD.
My first Rolex (which I still own) is a 36 mm DJ, I can't think of the last time I wore it.
If I was in formal settings daily perhaps Id go 36 but I find the 40/41 size much more casual and sporty looking.
It's personal taste, you can't go wrong with either.
Oh yeah my wife has two 36 mm DJs and she thinks they're perfect for a woman.
I recall one time I was wearing my 36 mm eons ago and she joked oh you're wearing a little watch today
Also I wear a 34 mm ultra thin AP manual Skeleton when I wear a tux (so smaller has its time and place)

oh man, I knew this 36-lady-watch topic would come soon.
Just wait, bunch of 36-guys are on their way to dismiss you.

Your second to last picture affirms that it is a perfect fit.

In any case, if you had gotten 36mm, I almost guarantee you would have been asking if it is too small. Human nature to strive for perfection and finding/overthinking faults in things that are damn near perfect.

I totally understand why you have asked the question as I have been going through a similar issue before registering for the 41mm. I think it looks really good on you, the 36mm would also look good. I would say that outside of watch lovers no one would even think that the 41 would be too big. It’s bigger than the 36mm (obviously) but as far as I can see, most luxury watch makers are moving towards 40mm plus for all watches and I would say it’s the perfect size for you.

I’d go for the DJ41, if you dress casually.

My first watch was a 36MM Day Date.. All I'll say is I wouldn't buy another 36mm and my wrist are not big by any means.
