My Scratches Don't Tell A Story

I was looking at the rather scratched bezel of my Explorer and I realized I don't know how it got so beat up. There are no great memories of dinging my watch while doing something spectacular or particularly memorable. They just show up out of the blue.

I wear it all the time so there is a higher chance for dings. Some marks are significant enough that I figure I should really remember hitting the watch on something. Before long it's going to look like I have a brushed bezel.

Working at a desk is tough on a watch. The watch touches paperclips, binder rings, desk drawers and lots of other random hard things. Being on the phone, distracted and reaching for a paper can be a disaster.

To the Exp 1 owners out there, how easily does the bezel of the watch get scratched after say 5 years?

It's all in how you wear the watch and what activities you do while wearing it. YMMV.

No easier than any other Rolex. I’ve had mine for about a year, probably longer, I wear it primarily during outdoor activity including vigorous exercise. No appreciable scratches. It’s not about the watch, it’s about the wearer.

I’m extremely careful with my watches and I’ve got some scratches on my bezel.

The whole scratches tell a story is extremely overrated imo. I don’t mind them, but it’s not like I’m thrilled to bang my watch even when doing fun things.

That's why I posted this. I assume most of them came from doing the most pedestrian of things. My office is clearly a dangerous place for a watch. I guess I'd like to have a better story than I spend a lot of time at work. Oh well.

My Scratches Don't Tell A Story

I don’t have many scratches on my watches. They’re all pretty much pristine. Probably because even though I worked in an office all day, I just never scratch my watches like some of you do. But the scratches I do have remind me of how much of a stupid klutz I was on occasion.

That's life man, we age and wear and tear happens. If anything now I like to see my watches scratched because it means I'm just wearing them and enjoying them. Obviously hurts on re-sale if you trade, but so be it..

I prefer to wear my watches. Have my kids see me wearing/enjoying my watches as one day I’ll pass them down to them. At least there will be some memories as opposed to taking something out of a safe and passing it down to them where there is no connection at all. When I tell people I wear my watches even when I work from home, they look at me like I have 3 heads.

I wear my Rolex 24/7, except that I do take it off when I shower. Yes, I know it's safe to shower with it on, but it's easier to wash my entire arm without having to move a watch out of the way. And as soon as I'm out of the shower and dried off, the watch goes back on my wrist. No, I don't take it off when I go in the pool.

Why wouldn't you wear your watch "even when [you] work from home"?

Couldn't agree more! The watch that's getting passed down can be a tangible memory of Dad. Just explain to the kiddos not to hawk it to Bobs watches for a fast buck

I really doubt many peoples tell a story. This is a phenomenon that occurs on this forum and not so much in real life lol. If I’m doing something particularly adventurous a Rolex watch is not something I take with me, just because it’s cumbersome and if anything can only inhibit performance.

I think older generations who used these watches because the technology was actually efficient at that time. World War I etc etc… those story’s are pretty cool.

The Story: Seems you must have dropped something between your car seat and center console. (And it's still there )

Don’t get me started … the kids borrow my car and there’s a food colony growing under the seats.

Do you wear Jean jackets often? I feel like the button on the end could potentially leave scratches/markings like that.

I always put a piece of duct tape on those buttons to avoid scratches.

I've never read too many books about characters bumping their wrist on a doorframe

Although I'm sure Proust could write about 30 pages on it, like the proverbial madeline. . .

I remember my first scratch on this 10 years ago. Boy, was that a wild one…after that it gets fuzzy.
