GST Australia
Hi I have a GST query that someone here might know about. If I were to purchase a watch from overseas and it was sent to me and I got charged import duties and GST for the item at the postal customs, would I be able to claim the GST back when I leave Australia for overseas with the said watch?

Not legally if you are an Australian resident.

Only businesses in Australia are required to charge GST for sales in Australia, BUT you would likely be up for Import Duty (not GST if the seller was outside of Australia).. Rules can be a bit confusing. Of course many people take the risk of not declaring, but then the penalties if caught would far outweigh any savings.
