Richard Mille price rise + safety while wearing
Had two questions for my fellow RM enthusiasts here..
1) What month does RM usually raise its MSRP in the US? Is it around the new year? Does anyone have historical data on increases and/or projections on this year’s price increases? I feel like it’s been around 6-8% but don’t keep a close eye on these things. I am looking at picking up an RM 67-02 in particular, and have been told I should have no major issues securing an allocation when I am ready so I’m just thinking about the logistics for now 2) Where do you guys even wear your RMs? I spend most of my time in major urban areas, but unfortunately most of my RMs spend most of their time in off-premises captivity due to the rise in crime surrounding these pieces. My pieces are insured but I find that when I’m wearing these pieces I spend more time thinking about my physical safety than enjoying the watch. I’m wondering if you guys have the same experiences. I don’t really feel this way about my other pieces My boutique is in the US (for pricing questions) and I spend most of my time in the US and EU (for the safety concerns). I cannot answer your questions but can empathize with having great watches that you occasionally feel uncomfortable wearing in public. This sort of happened to me with Patek sports watches and AP 5-10 years ago. It’s a tough line to straddle collecting watches you like and that are on trend and avoiding ones that are targets for theft/assault.
Long sleeves and remaining conscious of your surroundings is the best you can do short of not wearing them out.

Have you ever heard of theft instances not being covered by insurance policies like Hodinkee Insurance? (underwritten by Chubb) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I haven’t heard any complaints with Chubb insurance. I’m always just worried I’ll be drinking and not respond in a manner that de-escalates if you know what I mean.

Report any theft to the police asap and obtain a copy of the police report of the incident.

You're insured, just wear and enjoy. If someone else demands it, that's what insurance is for so no worries.

i hear Monaco and Singapore are safe, as are parts of the Middle-East. You could move to those locations and then wear your RM with no worries. i can highly recommend Singapore.

Richard Mille price rise + safety while wearing
Concern over an RM price increase + theft concern + insurance claim concern = alarm bells.
Sometimes we have subconscious fear lurking at a deeper level, which then cause issues with achieving our desired results. A form of “approach-avoidance” stance sabotages happy pursuit of our goals. If funding isn’t an issue, and the RM boutique will deliver a 67-02 as you portray, then pull the trigger. You will revel in the sleek lines - it’s an elite piece. You are no more at risk than you were before that purchase. The media has had a field day reporting all the negatives surrounding watch collectors and thefts. Reports here on TRF also concentrate our attention on how one was robbed, where did it occur, what time of day was it, where do you store your watches, how big is your safe, etc… This focuses fear, uncertainty, and doubt in our minds - it’s best to resolve these with a balance of actual stats and probability. Most of the fear-mongering headlines use isolated cases and numbers that make the thefts sound like a pandemic. In general, when considering overall theft globally, wristwatches are not the most commonly targeted item. Typically, thefts involve a wide range of items: cars, electronics, jewelry, and even bicycles. However, you won’t sell your BMW, iPhone, necklace, or e-bike would you? Hopefully we’ll see this elusive RM67-02 as an incoming soon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

The only country in which I dare to wear my watches without any covering is Singapore. Singapore is an amazingly safe country and also the population there is so wealthy that the amount of watch collectors there with collections beyond imagination is extremely high.

Love timepiece shopping over the decades in SG. Have seen, held, and heard pieces i've never seen anywhere else during my world travels. Plus SG has multiple Krispy Kreme locations

I typically purchase the watches for myself and if there is a slight chance the place I visit would be concerning—-I wear it under a sleeve.
67-02 allocation? I tried to request for one and they said unlikely as a first piece. You have a nice SA! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I've worn my RMs around the world, mostly on bright colored straps never ever without an issue. Ex south america, wouldn't wear anything there. As previously mentioned, I have never felt safer (and more poor) than in Singapore.

Very interesting - was wearing a nautilus in Paris and London and was told by multiple dealers to take it off and put it my pocket. One of them even gave me a watch case for that purpose Same deal with LA, actually had a local friend show up to a meeting with his AP in his pocket Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Before I wrote this thought down, it sounded funny at first, but by the time I wrote it down, I realized that it might be worth thinking about. |
