Bluesy future

Hello guys and gals,

I recently purchased a Bluesy from an AD which I fully enjoy and plan on keeping. My cousin saw me wearing it and wants to get one. He told me he is going to wait a year or so as he believes he can get it a lot cheaper in the preowned market then as he says prices have been coming down for a while now. We made a bet for $100. I told him it will hold value and he says it won’t. Am I going to lose my $100 ? Lol. I know no one knows but just curious as what others think.

who knows but what I have seen as I have been collecting for quite some time that most Rolex sport watches increase in value over time.

Personally I think this reference will further reduce in price between Msrp and secondary. Two tone has traditionally been under Msrp, and I have to imagine that’s where we’re headed if not already there.

I think your cousin is right….but whether it will take a year or possibly 2 to get there, I’m not sure. The point being is that the watch market is coming down.

TT Rolex have historically spent more time below MSRP on the used market than above it.

Outside of the aberration that was 2021 to March 2023 luxury watch market the TT Rolex sells below retail

Was the bet that I’ll be lower on the pre owned market than it is right now or will be lower than MSRP on the grey market?

All luxury goods have been going down recently. But that doesn’t mean things will be below MSRP.

Lower than MSRP. I think long term with the price increases, it will hold value. In the next year or so, not so clear.

Sad for your cousin missing out on a year of not wearing this beautiful watch. Lift is too short to play secondary market pricing games, IMHO.

With the way Rolex price increases are going, by the time he is ready to buy, the used price will probably be what a new one costs now. I think your $100 is safe.

Agree 100%. I told him buy it. So what if it loses a few hundred dollars in value if he likes it!. I think he’s waiting for something that isn’t going to happen. He thinks he’ll be able to get preowned mint for a lot less than Msrp. I highly doubt it.

That is a beautiful dial! Looks like it’s been polished to death, but has a lot of character nonetheless.

This was a watch that came to me in a px deal for a car. It was completely compromised by polishing, I didn't keep it. The dial was lush though!

Both are nice, of course, but I prefer the OP’s watch, and I guess the Rolex designers did, too. The different shade of blue, on the bezel makes it more interesting. I have a Seiko diver, where they did the same thing. It’s a favorite of mine. OP, I think you will win that bet, and congrats on your beautiful new Bluesy.

Well in general all the TT Rolex watches in proportion of price paid ,dont hold there value like most all of the SS models.At one when the Daytona was first launched you could buy the TT version for less than the SS versions were bringing in the market.The blue dial sub is my favourite in all of the TT Rolex watches great watches,as for prices well who knows its a crazy Rolex world today.

I agree!. No one knows. I like mine and it’s my favorite blue dial Rolex makes!

I agree that resale history seems to show that TT sports models comparatively lag SS sports models.

A lot of variables in the pre-owned market. For one, age and condition are paramount. Is he saying he can find the same reference, warranty dated at least in the ballpark, in BNIB or LNIB condition for cheaper?

It's a definite maybe. I wouldn't bet on it either way.

TT watches are not as popular as their SS counterparts and as stated typically lose more value than steel only watches. You love the watch so who cares. If the current market continues, values will stay where they are now.

IMO it will probably stay slighty at list for trade in you would loose sales tax most likely. Market is really based on avability and then what grey market buyers feel the watch is worth. Prices as im sure your well aware have all dropped. But thats a classic watch in the line up.
IMO i would hold off on the full gold stuff for a year (not that I plan to take my own advice) but i bet the full gold stuff which already started to see a big drop like almost every DD40 model. Possibly a year to two from now will all be at below msrp on the grey. But its a guess and lifes short so if ya want the watch no buy it. Rolex will always keep raising prices so even if the watch is at msrp 2 years from now I bet you that MSRP will be more that current pricing now.

Your $100 is a goner.

9/10 years that watch is under MSRP. Not that long ago those were discounted at some AD's.

That all being said, if you love it, who cares. Most every watch I buy loses money.
