Traded 4 for 1. Let's see your trades

Anyone else downsize your collection and trade multiple watches for 1?

I fell in love with the pp 5168g and ended up trading for a rolex smurf, vintage gold daytona, sd43 and iwc portuguese + a little cash.

Show us your trades!

Your money your decision, but boy I would’ve never, ever done that trade. The LB sub and vintage Daytona are incredible watches.

I would do what you did, much better to have one top tier high horology piece that feels truly special than any number of mass produced aimed at the high street mass market mid tier Rolex watches imo

Right? I mean to each their own, but that was a terrible trade to me.

OP - your call of course. But as others have said, you gave up a lot. I know it may just be me, but that PP looks rather bland (again to me). yes, I know it is a "PP", but you gave up a great mix of watches for it. But enjoy it if that's what you wanted, congrats

WatchCharts puts the current market value of the Patek at 76,500. Retail is 49K.

The retail price is really more like $449,000 if you factor in all the other watches you'd have to buy before you could get one at msrp. ha

The trade value I got for both Daytona and Smurf was more than my cost basis so I did alright.

I'd bet most in this thread have never seen or felt the 5168g on wrist. It's a game changer once you do.

None of the watches he traded, would be considered “heavy hitters”. All rather easy to obtain at below retail price.

I’m not saying I would’ve made the trade, just pointing out, he didn’t give up much.

I'm really close to pulling the trigger on selling my WG sub + cash for the latest VC Overseas Retrograde Moonphase. Still a little hesitant because it's PM for steel but man the 4000V is gorgeous

I know you didn’t ask for opinions, but this is TRF and opinions are like a-holes here as everyones got ‘em.
I’m ok with trades either up or down, but in all honesty that trade makes me cringe.
18k Smurf + 18k Inverted 6 Zenith Daytona + the other watches is a whole lot for that particular 18k PP IMO.
Obviously your watches your decision.
Enjoy!

I traded this AP + other stuff for this Big Red with B&P earlier this year.
My regret is not trading something else instead of the AP, and keeping both.

Glad you’re happy OP but I’m with the bandwagon…would never do that trade. Regardless of the $ in my book you had a lot of versatility where now you just have a one and done. I’m biased though because the Aquanaut doesn’t excite me, but glad you’re happy with it. It’s on your wrist so your opinion is all that matters!

Haven’t traded anything myself yet. Debating trading my JC someday for the new WG sub (+ cash obviously) but since it’s my first Rolex I also want to keep it, so I’m thinking I may just wait and save the extra money to be able to add instead of trade.

The 5168 Patek is my favorite watch. I can’t address the economics but believe you will be very pleased.

Yes I’ve done this. What good are all these watches when there is one wrist and 7 days a week. I think 9 is where I want to be. One everyday and change up for sat and Sunday.
Some just look all pretty in the watchbox and go unloved. I say trade / particularly if it’s an upgrade

3 Rolex(2 PM and discontinued) for WG PP on a rubber strap? Well, your watches and money, but not a trade I’d even consider.

Oof, yeh, right there with ya. I'm all for consolidation, but this trade doesn't sit well with me. As long as the OP is happy, that's really all that matters. Not my wallet or my wrist.

I’d like to see the maths, I’m too lazy and unfamiliar to look it up. I don’t know if it’s an even money trade, I assume it is. In pictures it looks assymetric, but on paper it may be more even. That Smurf and Daytona are eye candy to me but sometimes less is more.

The math did indeed math out. All of the pieces I traded away could easily be reacquired if wanted in future and instead of watches I didn't wear and no longer desired, now I'm down to a manageable 3 pieces (one new green sub, one old vintage sub and a big boy pm blue sports on rubber).
