Incredible stuff, for watch lovers and math / geometry / watchmaker geeks too.

I enjoyed this thanks for sharing. R&D electronics engineer here and a lot of what he says rings true in my day to day. The value of making beautiful even the parts you can’t see. The iffy results with computer modeling. Prototyping life! His workshop looks like my laboratory but with more machines and less probes.

Agreed GP, and i also 'see' a lot of myself in his passion as well. The recent bubble brought forth some very unsavory characters into flipping / backpacker sales, and imho that hurt our 'hobby'. It is wonderful that Stephen very kindly shares his passion and designs with us. (insert deep gratitude here)
And of course thanks to Max B for making Stephen's creations a reality.

Certainly when the money feedback machine goes non linear things get dicey and a lot of shadiness becomes the apparent norm. Until something breaks and the uncreative opportunists are washed out. That’s non-linearity for ya!
It’s a curse of participating in humanity. But there’s a blessing for humanity too that plenty of us keep chugging along below the surface trying to do things right. And an extraordinary blessing that there are rare geniuses like this watchmaker among them who bring previously unimaginable greatness and share it with the rest of us. As discussed in another recent thread I recently had an entirely serendipitous opportunity to handle and wear one of his creations and now I can’t get it out of my head. Thank you for sharing this video.
Stephen McDonnell is definitely one of the watchmaking geniuses of our time. This video will make it more enjoyable when I can finally be in possession of one of his creations. And every time I read about how him and Max get together and form their relationship. It makes me appreciate the MB&F brand even more. When we buy an independent brand watch, I am sure we are also buying the people behind the brand. |

Their passion speaks volumes. You're not 'just' another retail customer. Max and friends get my vote Luxury premium home audio has the same diversity, from a Yamaha receiver at your local Best Buy to the truly high-audio handcrafted exotics from an independent manufacturer. Like timepiece movements, look at the 'movememt' of each piece of audio gear and the differences are quite obvious.

I'm glad this was shared here. I was in the room for this talk and I can tell you there were people in tears at the end. This may have been my favorite experience at DWW overall.
