Op 36
How difficult is to get a op36 from A.D. what would be the expected wait times.

I think it depends on a) your relationship with an AD and b) which one you ask for
So if the answer to a) is ‘none’ and b) is Tiffany Blue, then 10 years ie it won’t happen. But if a) is ‘some’ or even ‘good’ and b) is black, then 6 months max. |

It really does depend on the color. It took me a full year to get my OP 36 Silver, which is probably in the middle of the pack, desire wise. Black and dark blue should be pretty easy. The Stella dials are more difficult, with some colors having been discontinued. Good luck.

Kat & RG nailed it. They're not SS Daytonas in terms of demand, but people will still queue for one. The colorful ones (i.e.: not black, white, blue) will be more difficult to attain. IMHO, if you're after a black one, do consider the 124270.

In both black dial, they look quite similar other than a Benz hour hand, and 369 numerals. What else? Even same movement 3230. Why is 124270 almost $1000 more than 126000 ? I don't see the point.

I understand that this is a very privileged comment to say, but: $1k isn't a ton of money & I'd have the Explorer 10 times out of 10 over a black OP36. It's just cooler to me. If you compare the two objectively, it is very difficult to justify the upcharge of the Exp1 vs the OP36 as they are inherently the same.

Op 36
Quote:
FYI, the bracelet taper is different on the two. The lug width is 19 on 124270, and 20 on OP 36. Also, I have to agree with your “it’s just cooler” statement. Guess what my black dial 36mm Rolex is……. Kat Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

And this is why I much prefer the OP 36 to the Exp 36. That 19 taper is a deal breaker for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The differences weren’t slight at all. In fact bar the movement there were tonnes of them. Quite apart from the dials, which side by side aren’t remotely similar, the bezel difference was the most obvious one to me looks wise (curved on the OP, straight on the Explorer) and then when i factored in that the Explorer pretty much had a custom designed strap made specifically for it that - to my eye anyway - made the watch seem bigger than the OP which with the 20mm lug gap just felt less balanced and smaller; this coupled with the safety clasp meant it certainly felt worth the higher price. In a word, it just felt like more watch, but i may well scratch that OP itch someday… |

I have the older version OP36 with silver dial and 3,6,9 lumed markers. I like it better than the Explorer as it’s got a domed bezel vs flat bezel. Good for dressing up or down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That is a seriously good looking watch. I’m not sure why I prefer the flat as opposed to domed bezel in the flesh. May well be that it reminds me of my 16570 (which i miss) and that the dome just seemed more dressy than sporty.

Thanks. I bought this from my next door neighbor who inherited a YG DD36 from his grandpa before he passed. So he didn’t want the OP anymore. My other watches are 40, 40, 42mm so this is smaller. But fits and wears so nicely. It disappears. I had flat bezels on my previous PT DD40’s and they looked nice. But easier to see scratches. Minor details…. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

speaking on my most recent experience, I have purchased a YM40 and a DJ36 from the same AD, and expressed my interest on OP36 silver.
2 weeks later I was called to see silver and black dial. When I showed up they even presented a candy pink, which I don't like anyway. I ended up taking the silver. So it's not difficult, and some funky color (pink, blue...etc) is not impossible to get. I don't know if my relationship to this AD is good or just lukewarm.

It still depends a lot on your relationship with the store.

If you have to ask, you will never get one. Especially in the pastel color.

Silver & black in the UK is fairly easy, if you go to multiple ADs, a couple of months wait max. Good luck

I decided to go to multiple ADs, since I did not have a relationship with any in my area. I got the call after 38 days, from a lower volume, single-store AD. I hope to pick up an OP36 tomorrow. They treated me well and communicated with class and forthrightness. All of the big fancy ADs in the area gave me the run-around. Once I complete the purchase, I will proudly consider this jewelry store my AD and I look forward to purchasing other items from them.

This pic was from another thread that makes my point a lot better than i did earlier. You can’t go wrong with either reference but i think their similarities are actually pretty superficial when they’re side by side. Kat has both the Explorer and the OP36 so I’m sure she can testify to that better than me. |

Op 36
Quote:
Because I have both, I can say that I get a completely different feeling when wearing each. As someone mentioned, the Explorer is just plain cool. The OP, especially in silver, with its gold accents, is classy. I love both, in different ways. I have no interest in a black OP. Kat |

Since you're a self-admitted hoarder, if you feel the urge to thin out the herd, I'm only at the other end of the state :) Burritos on me in exchange for your Exp.
