Do you typically ask your AD for the coffin...

And if yes, do they usually accede to such a request? I never have, but I'm not sure I knew they existed at the times I've bought from AD's before. I'd like to have it just for the novelty of it, but don't want to raise suspicion of planning a flip. Though this AD knows me well and that that is not something I've done, FWIW. Just curious as I'm expecting a call soon.

My AD has been more than happy to provide them for me. I have 2 and find they come in handy when traveling.

Yes - perfect for storing the PM pieces that aren't in rotation

Ask them.

The worst they will say is no.

If your AD is Lee Michaels, there's little to no chance.

I don't, because I can't fit it inside the Rolex box. I like my boxes and papers to be fully contained within the box/sleeve.

I’d rather they reuse/recycle that piece of plastic, which is useless for me.

The coffin is the ugliest packaging ever. I don’t see any reason to ask for it, not even for resale. It’s not like if you have the coffin you’ll sell the watch more easily or for more (unlike box and warranty card etc).

I would rather ask for a travel pouch if you need something for traveling. They give it as part of a service visit.

This.^^^

I must have 5 or 6 service pouches and several of these exact travel pouches. Much more useful IMHO

Have to agree like the rest of the bits of plastic but believe now they are no longer shipped in these plastic so called coffins.

This is true, they are shipped in white boxes with a clear window to see what’s inside.

They're incredibly useful for, say, sending watches off for a service - I can't think of a better form of protection (inside a "normal" box, obvs). Can also be handy for storage of rarely worn watches, depending on your preferences for such things.

Useless in terms of adding value to a set, though.

If you use one of these to send your watch in to RSC for service, do they send it back?

I want the watch. I think it would be poor form to ask for the plastic coffin.

I don’t think I’ve ever asked. But have been given a few anyways. It’s junk. Usually tossed out during annual spring cleaning

He always throws them in the large brown disguise bag. The latest one was cardboard.

I always get them as my AD knows I like absolutely everything a new watch comes with, including the white hang tag, the bezel protector, and the white cardboard sleeve the main box comes with. He's always been happy to provide them in the past. In fact, the plastic box is very nice to keep the watch in in your pocket when you leave the store, instead of walking out with your watch inside the massive glossy AD bag that shouts "mug me!".

I have no particular reason for wanting all that stuff as I'm not remotely a flipper: I guess I just like a complete set.

I've been given the "coffins" with a few purchases over the last few years, but I don't go out of my way to ask for them. The ADs are professional and know what should be included with each watch sale to maintain a complete set. They just end up going into a box in my closet with other odds and ends of watch stuff.

I just checked the “coffin” from a few weeks ago. It’s cardboard on the outside and styrofoam on the inside.

It seems an injustice and wrong to place any Rolex watch in Styrofoam in a plastic box. A sock would even be a much better solution. That packaging is best re-cycled or tossed.

Yes.
There are 6 in the big box that has all the rest of my collection’s box and papers.
I have never used them and have never been asked for one on a trade so not really sure of any value.

If the AD is in South LA, just look them in the eyes and say “don’t make this weird, just give me the coffin baw”.

In my experience, no longer. Pre 2018 I got them. You can buy them online if you do a search for watch coffin. I don’t think that Rolex makes them.

I’ve never been given the delivery case. The new ones are paper so useless anyway.

No. Just picked up a new DJ blue dial on jubilee today from my AD. Had read this thread shortly prior to getting the watch. Zero desire to get the coffin.
