Worst month ever
Here is the reason that I haven't been around much, guys.
"Some of you might have read about what happened when Sadie cut her paw and bled on the carpet in the halls in my condo. Well, apparently it was such a big deal to them that the condo board is forcing out all dogs over the 35lbs limit. This doesn't make sense to me, because a 5 pound dog can bleed just as much as a large dog. The whole thing just blows my mind. It isn't final yet, we are still waiting for Sadie's individual approval, and we are going to try to get into a condo board meeting so that we can talk to them and tell them how great Sadie is, and how she shouldn't be judged on size but her demeanor and attitude towards people and how she is as a tenant. I am so heartbroken I can’t even function at work today properly. What do I do? Should I send her back now so I don’t become even more attached? Should I wait? We will fight tooth and nail to keep her regardless, but I am just at a complete loss. Unfortunately, moving to a different place is just not an option for us at this point. Sadie has been worth every penny, and I HATE that she may be bumped again. This beautiful girl deserves to stay in a home that loves her to death like we do, she doesn’t deserve all the craziness of having to be moved again." That is just the beginning. Long story short, Aadil and I have been fighting like crazy to figure out a way to avoid giving her back. We have started a petition that I have to get people to sign tonight, but I am just so defeated. Sadie is pretty much my whole life, and I love her like she is my own flesh and blood. I just can't stand the thought of not having her in my life. Now, Aadil and I need to find between $50,000 to $100,000 so that we can move into a duplex so that we can keep our little family together. This stress is just eating away at the both of us, and I know that Sadie is feeling the stress too. I am just so heartbroken, and I don't see it getting better anytime soon. Fingers crossed that I win the lottery this week :( |

We knew of it before, but because many other owners had dogs larger than ours, we figured that we would be fine. Also, we hadn't heard back for three months after we sent in her application, so we thought it was fine.

At this point all you can do it put up the good fight and accept the decision that others will make. These things do and will happen in our lives. I wish for an outcome that works best for all involved.

Wow, very sorry to hear about what's been going on. I wish you all the best in the move, and hopefully everything will be straightened out in a timely manner
We love our dog to death as well, and (live in a condo, with certian pet regulations as well). However, if push came to shove, and they told us we could not have our dog in our unit, we would be moved out the next day. Best of luck, and hopefully you can stay where you guys are now |

Sorry to hear about your situation Ashley. Did she grow over the limit after you got her? That could be a possible explanation to the board. Maybe start looking for a different place to live if your pet is important enough to you.

That is just crappy! Greyhounds are just huge lap dogs and much less destructive than many small breeds. You should bring that up! A Min Pin or Rat Terrier can demolish a condo and do much more damage than a Greyhound!!!!

That really sucks.. This is why i moved out of a condo.. I dont like others telling me what i can and cant do on my property :( I really hope it works out for you put up the good fight is all you can do.

Hi Ashley,
First let me say I am sorry you are dealing with all this stress. I wasn't aware of this incident with Sadie. I have a couple of questions . . . First, you said that Sadie bled in the hallway. Who cleaned up after Sadie? My thinking is that if the condo association paid for cleaning, perhaps you might offer to reimburse them. Would it do any good to seek a legal opinion regarding this matter? Perhaps a letter from a veterinarian who is willing to testify that Sadie's disposition is indeed compatible with your current living arrangements, and maybe that person can also stress that the incident which occurred was highly unusual, an isolated incident? I might also contact some animal advocacy groups to get pointers regarding how to approach the condo committee. Surely others have faced a similar situation and I'd want to know who may have met with success, and borrow some strategies. Just some ideas I wanted to share. I wish you the very best and please update us when you are able. Faith P.S. Why don't you offer to pay a deposit to the condo committee as a goodwill gesture, and tell them to hold onto it in the very unlikely event Sadie causes any damage? Better to pay a deposit then the $50k to $100k to relocate as you mentioned in your narrative.

The first order of business is to work on lowering your stress hormones. The higher they go, the lower you go.
Earnest answers you need to provide: Do you have the resources to invest $50 - 100k just to relocate? If you have it, can you afford to "spend/invest" it for this reason? If you have it but cannot afford to use it on this situation, then there is no sense in triggering these stress hormones in your body. If you don't have it then the end result is the same. NO means NO ---- PERIOD. Other ideas, and the legal eagles can chime in and refocus my thoughts. In your post you stated you submitted some paperwork on the dog and during (90) days you did not hear a "NO", so you supposed it was "YES". This is a very good point. In certain areas of the world, under administrative law, there is a period of time that is defined as to how long the Administrative entity can take to reply to a request. If there is not an answer within the limits established by law, the administrated (you) shall suppose the application was APPROVED by the administrator (them). In my part of the world we call this "ADMINISTRATIVE SILENCE", since they did not say NO, I supposed it was YES. Another thing to keep in mind. THE LAW IS THE LAW. NO ONE IS ABOVE IT. What do I mean? While there is a Condo Committee and while they have tenants guidelines and such, these cannot infringe your rights according to the law. The law is above whatever they say. I would imagine a lawyer should not cost anywhere near $50 - 100k...............and would give you concise advice. Sometimes a letter from an attorney can do wonders. My first approach would not be combative and I would use allot of what Faith suggested. If the Condo Board allowed other pet owners to keep dogs above 35lbs, they essentially allowed that article to fall into "disuse" , which happens to allot of laws that fall by the wayside. Review: 1. Do not provoke stress reactions that will hamper your ability to function. 2. Obtain advice from Pet Advocates and legal sources. 3. Request in writing a meeting with the Condo Board, be careful what you say because once said, cannot usually be "unsaid". 4. If you are well prepared and calm, you will not need any luck. |

When I adopted my cat, the adoption agency had to contact my landlord and clear the pet to live there since I lived in an apartment. I guess they did that to prevent things like this (since they verified it themselves). I hope it works out.
