Price increases. I have a crystal ball.

Just kidding I don't have a crystal ball but it's fairly easy to tell when price increases are imminent.

Allocations get tighter. It's that simple.

Imagine how much stock large AD groups are sitting on?

Why would the big AD groups release several hundred pieces now when they could wait a few weeks and hit up their customers for an extra 5-10% on the professional models and a little less on Datejusts etc?

Cannot believe everything you hear from AD or reps. But I was told that Rolex monitors the number of days between delivery and warranty registration. Not sure if there’s a policy to sell within x number of days.

I actually don't think there is. I have a good friend who is a sales manager at a major AD and he keeps a track of the stock levels. Stainless steel Daytona's can sit for many months as they are probably the biggest fishing hook available to them and will only go to those with decent spend history.

I have heard this also. ADs who hoard hard to get pieces in the safe, could have an issue with Rolex. The new Exhibition policy changes a lot of this as ADs have to hold a certain number in stock now.

Most AD’s are more concerned with selling inventory before year end. The tax liability is worse than any upside a potential price increase may provide.

Perhaps trade in your crystal ball towards a magic 8 ball.

In the US, however the tax year in the UK is April to April. Maybe trade in your magic 8 ball for a globe of the world :)

Many states charge a year end tax based on the value of a stores inventory.

Interesting. I just looked it up, looks like 11 states have this. So not many.

What is the tax amount? I can’t imagine more than a few percentage.

It really depends on the state and even the municipality. I think CT is 6%, so on a million dollar inventory you are looking at 60k.

Why take the time to start a thread about it, if you don’t care?

Excellent question, am sure there's a reason.

I had a price increase between me ordering a watch and getting it a couple of months later, I got it for the old price. It was actually the first Rolex I bought at that AD.

Would Rolex charge the AD the price difference when they register the watch as sold?

Surely Rolex does not want ADs hoarding watches in the lead up to a price increase. And with routine increases, this is a risk.

If I was Rolex, I would make sure that ADs are releasing pieces as fast as they receive them, and also remitting any wholesale cost increase back to Geneva.
