Well, I am Rolex-less :(

What can I say, times are rough... All the extra improvements we had to do to the house, all the stuff we had to get for the twins... Had to set some priorities. Got rid of ALL my watches with the exception of the white gold Breguet Marine II Chrono (that one, assuming no life/death situations, is going to my son). The 18k GMT IIc had to go too... Just can't justify having another solid gold watch when financially we are not that comfortable at the moment. The IWC Repeater had to go too - waaaaaay too expensive of a watch to keep right now. That one actually bought us new roof/siding and a REALLY nice master bath - jacuzzi. So, watches, for the time being, slid down on a priority list. The collection consists of my favorite above-mentioned Breguet, a 1960's Seiko Sport which used to belong to my Grandpa and a quartz Bucherer which I cut grass in .

I know this dip is temporary, but at the moment it is needed. For someone who considers himself a collector, this does sting though!

Don't worry man, a rolex-man is more than his rolex, his appreciation will last long after his wrist is naked.

Greg, I'm sure it was tough to sell your pieces, but I have no doubt that you will replace them down the road when the time is right You obviously have a lot going on right now and other priorities to focus on.

You get them back before you know it. Collector is always going to collect just a matter of when.

At least you got your priority straight.

Well, I do have an uncontrollable itch for a Steel GMTIIc - love that dial layout, clean and easy to read. Love the feel of the ceramic bezel and actually prefer the black dial to the green anniversary dial I had in the gold one. Works out great, since it is only 4th of the cost of the gold one!

Hope you're right, Harvey - not even thinking about it right now though... Hate to window-shop, you know?

Man that stinks, but at least you have the gumption to prioritize the important stuff. Don't let it keep you away, and don't worry. You'll be back in no time with something great. Maybe back in Black with a IIC

Now, since I know your memory is so bad..................

Ever find that Jenny Jones tape???

We want to see it and then...

You'll be back brother!

Rolex is like a Harley is to me: once you've had one they are NEVER out of your system for too long. A disease if you will.

Glad to see someone using a little common sense and setting their priorities straight.

From your friend,

Sheldon

A collector is not defined by his collection, but by his good taste.

The watches will be back.

I'm with you on this one Sheldon.

I'm not Rolex-less but RR-Less.

For some reason people went on a shopping spree and I sold my 3 pieces so now the hunt begins.

Don't worry, I'm sure the sacrifices will be worth it! I'm sure when you see the smiles of your twins, it'll be better. How are they doing?

I only have a 1 Rolex's and 2 Omega's left myself....
Watches are way down on my list right now......at my age and situation I doubt that I will ever go into another watch buying freenzy like I did a few years ago....If I win the lotto that could change though.

You just went from a Rolex Man to a Good Man.
Rolexes do not define who you are, and you selling it just proved to your family that you are indeed the man that you should be, the one they can count on. And when she said "yes" to you years ago, she made the right choice.

A piece of metal with moving gears is worth nothing in the grand scheme, and worth nothing compared to what you have at home with your family.

Sorry that you had to see it go, I cried every time I had to sell one. But that's life. And you did what you had to do, and is what matters the most. You made the right choice buddy

IMHO, this could not be said more eloquently, and I would add, been there, done that, and don't worry before you know it, you'll have a new collection.
Not to worry at all!

Greg, you're a good dude...things will pick up, though it doesn't sound like you're in bad shape...hurts getting rid of the watches I'm sure, but you have your head on straight with your priorities...did you sell the GMT YG? That is my current grail since the YM II weighs as much as I do...just wondering...and best of luck!!

Just think of how impressive the house must be now Greg and those children are just priceless.

Hell, you've even got a jacuzzi. I have to eat lots of beans before I take a bath to get the same effect.

Hey thats the beauty of watches, you can convert them to cash whenever you need! You can always buy them back at a later date in time, or move on to other models.

Sounds like you made the best move at this time, best of luck to you and your family!

No sweat, the house will appreciate a lot quicker than a Rolex. ....and then again you can always buy more watches when things pick up a bit.

Those who have their priorities in order always come out on top again..Just think of the fun you will have in a very short time in going on the hunt for a new watch. A big part of the fun for me!

If you have an itch to scratch you might want to pop over to the new Alpha USA site, get one of those tasty Newmans for a shade under $150, bit of fun and a lovely movement in them!

Hang in there Greg! You are doing the right thing by putting family and priorities first. Watches can always be bought again.

Look at it this way, you are in the watch industry and you get to touch and feel all these great watches.

Keep ya head up pal!

You've still got the Breguet Marine II Chrono
Most people would be more than happy with that! Don't worry Greg, good things come to those who wait. You'll have more in the future, no doubts and we still have your great company. You'll get more pleasure from your wonderful wife, beautiful twins and a lovely home than you could ever get from a watch.
I've been converting an old chapel into a house for the last 2 and a half years, so I know all about money pits I've nearly had to let my tudor chrono and rickenbacker bass go on more than one occasion, but don't worry, the date will click over on a lovely rolex for you once again.
