A new Explorer II in 40mm - will I be waiting forever?

I'd love to get an Explorer II one day, but probably only in a 40mm size or smaller. Of course I know I can buy an older reference, but do you think Rolex will ever release a smaller size again? Maybe in addition to the larger size like they have 2 sizes with the Explorer? I know they "redesigned" it a couple years ago, so does that mean to probably expect no changes for a long time?

I wouldn’t think they would offer those sizes any time soon for the reason you stated. I just bought my Exp II and love it.

No one knows for sure, but I think you’ll be waiting forever. With many other 40mm watches in their range, the Explorer II is very intentional at 42mm, and has been for over a decade now. With the Exp I being smaller, there is very little chance the II will be reduced in size.

Who knows.

Rolex may standardise on case diameter and that would likely be 40mm.

Time will tell. NPI.

That’s what I decided to go for and have not been disappointed. Yes, I know it’s not a Rolex but it’s value for money and superior specs of 200m WR and the T-fit clasp never cease to impress me.

With Rolex you never know.

I like the 42mm because it's something different. The white dial version is the most legible watch I've ever seen.

I think it’s gonna be very difficult. People are getting taller and bigger all the time, case sizes have been growing as well. It would be nice if Rolex started offering lady sizes for their sport watches. They could do a 42mm and a 37mm

I had a 16570 polar and wore it all the time. I beat the hell out of it and was never disappointed. I sold it but that was a mistake. I now have the 216570 polar and really like it but it is BIG.... I dont believe it will go back to 40mm.

They really should offer it in a smaller size, same with the Sub. The median wrist size is supposed to be 6.75”, these bigger only sizes leave out half the population

When I was getting my Sub, I told my AD to put me automatically on "the list" without even calling me IF Rolex EVER makes Eplorer II in 40mm again!!
Until then, I'll be wearing the 5 digit reference!

It was THE FIRST Rolex I ever fell in love with

No changes to the watch for a while and I do not see a 40mm case return.

Who knows …

Rolex has really played around with the Explorer sizing … maybe they’ll set their sights on the Exp2

The Explorer 1 and the yachtmaster come in two sizes now. I would not be surprised if the Explorer 2 and even the Sub eventually do too. The sub looks too big in many of the posts I see here, so it would be a welcome development for many people. I think a 39 or 40mm Explorer 2 would be fantastic. Even though my wrist is slightly over 7in, I still find the new Explorer 2 too big and heavy to wear often.

Yeah it’s interesting that they’ve picked and chosen which sports models to add sizing options. I’d guess that they see the Explorer and Yachtmaster as the more “feminine” sports models and that’s why they offer in 2 sizes (I know the explorer 36 originally but still). But it would be nice to give people more sizing options across the model range

If anything they'll do 41mm like the Submariner maybe...If they made it slightly smaller I'd trade/sell my 226570 42mm as I find it is a "tad" too big for my 7 1/4" wrist. YMMV.

I recently bought back a 16570 polar. I sold my first one 20+ years ago, which was a mistake.

But I am extremely happy with the one I have now.

I would not wait for Rolex to maybe, possibly, hopefully come out with a new 40mm version again. The 5 digit is so good as it is.

Ah. Only size mentioned about.

16570 option. But 42 is so sick. Orange is so cool. But so is red.

One thing to consider: the lume and visibility
Of the 42. Is. Off. The. Hook. Which means amazing.

I own the 16570 and LOVE the way the case wears (I have small wrists) BUT prefer the BOLD THICK markers and hands and that orange GMT of the new one!!

A hybrid of ones dial and hands style with the others case size and shape would make my perfect Explorer II.

Until that happens, if ever, my only other option is to gain about 60 lbs to be able to wear the new one
