It's an albatross within the catalog. There are some that love it but many that do not. Great for those that own it.

That is a great way to put it. He has all yellow cars, eats food served on trash can lids & bleaches his hair tips... that's all that needs to be said about him At the risk of sounding even more pompous, of the three yachters I know (two race), none use this watch. My very credible & well-researched study is all of the evidence I need.

It's scary down there! What if seaweed touches my feet? Will my crown seal be damaged?

I don't do any watersports with my Submariner

I was told by a reliable AD last week that all Palm motif and fluted dials have been retired so could be true also about the YMII

I could believe it because Rolex likes to rotate dials (eg: linen tapestry jubilee fluted motif). If true, it makes me even happier to have acquired my blue fluted motif DJ 36 last year.

I don’t see YM2 values climbing even if they do discontinue it because the number of people who want to wear a 44mm watch with truly the most useless complication in modern horlogerie is quite small.

i don't know and i don't care tbh. This watch is a monstrosity as far as i'm concerned, and does not even have the potential of being a future classic when discontinued.

I disagree that it’s a monstrosity, but I do agree that it won’t be considered a future classic.

Saw a white gold one for sale yesterday at Geneva Airport, I to have been told that all motif dials and palm dials have stopped production.

So if all motif dials are discontinued I will no longer be able to get my wife the floral dial. Its pretty sad if true. It think of all the dials the DJ has, the different motifs are the the most exciting. The Fluted dials are the best addition by far to the collection in my opinion. Rolex finally got back to the creativity in the dials in that range.

I hope it’s true, and I hope they use the increased dial production bandwidth to bring back the colorful options for the OP line.

The eternal mystery of what the production or sales numbers are for a particular model.

How many YMIIs exist. Rarity a factor in future value?

Maybe they're clearing production capacity so they can make more than 10 copies of the mythical YM42Ti

Tried this on today at HourGlass in Singapore. First they received since release. It looks great, I love the size, and very light.

Registered my interest but was not getting any encouraging vibes from my SA who usually helps me get what I want….

I’m surprised the YMII has lasted this long, I don’t think it has ever sold well. Probably the Rolex version of someone’s “vanity project,” so much money was spent on its development they wanted to recoup at least part of its cost.
As far as dials being dropped, that is routine for Rolex. A core group of classic variations have been around for decades, novelty dials come and go.

I actually see a few yachtmaster II on peoples wrist. I was just in St Barths and saw a few. Also saw one on the beach in Anguilla. I think they are more common than you think.

I expect the "dippin dots" dial to be dropped soon for the same reason (maybe we'll have birthday balloons next year?)

When they raised prices of all other watches all while discounting the YMII, the writing was on the wall. I think very few people will even miss that its gone.

I can see these things happening.

The Datejust dial options are a little bloated at the moment. I can see the need to streamline.

I've never really been a fan of the Yacht Master II. I'm not sure it's a great seller. Rolex looks to be expanding the standard Yacht Master range with 42mm options. It could be that they just want to position the standard model as "the" boating reference.

The Yacht Master II has an interesting complication, it's just not practical for most. The watch has always seemed a bit confused.

Have no idea if it's discontinued or not, but if it is it won't be missed by many...

That YM II would have been incredible with its unique movement if it was a 40mm, instead of Invicta-sizing.
