Got a Text from my AD today

Thought I share this with you guys here. After a service of my 16610 some time ago I expressed interest in perhaps getting a YM II if they had one come available. It's been a couple of years since I made the request and got a text today from a salesperson telling me they had a certified preowned example from 2019. Stainless. Is still in warranty for 2 years and when that expired, they were offering another 2 years extended warranty on top of that.
I inquired as to price and was quoted full retail for the current model.
18700. I passed. I was a bit put off by offer when I could spend the same and get new. Don't know. I passed..

If you want it, I'd wait a few weeks if it's still make them a serious offer at the price you'll pay.

Wasn't a Rolex certified pre-owned watch, just certified pre-owned by the store.

I would wait for a new one. Maybe put interest in at another AD if possible.

I don't quite understand the rationale behind an AD selling preowned for what a new one would cost or for more $$. I've seen countless threads on Rolex trying to control the secondary market and flippers, etc. but I don't see how this rationale helps any of that except to keep the price on the secondary market high and Rolex capitalizing on it. I guess maybe that is the point.:ban ghead:

AD would say a new sub is $10k, we don't have any in stock. We have a used one for $14k. This is so stupid.

I would have passed as well. If it was something that was a higher demand piece like a GMT or Daytona I could understand it. I think that would be a very fair deal in that case. The YM II is a nice piece imo, but obviously a lesser demand due to the size. I'd love to have one if it was in a size that I could personally pull off.....like a 40mm.

I haven't followed the market on the YM II very closely. Aren't these going at or under MSRP on the grey these days?

You did the right thing! I might have laughed, when they asked for full price. It’s a 5 year old watch! They honestly believed that throwing in the extra 2 year warranty would sway you. Insanity! What they don’t get is that as much as we want these watches, we aren’t willing to buy them at ridiculous prices, especially if used. We’ve had enough of the shortage, and the wait lists. They probably were acting like they were doing you a favor, too. Wait a few weeks, then call and offer them $14,500.

Yeah, that's ridiculous. I would have chuckled too. It's not that hard to get at retail, just try a different AD that doesn't want to screw you over. Most are more decent than that.

The YM II is one of those watchs that when you look at it on Rolex web site it wins the ugly duckling award. But when you see it in person it’s much nicer looking. Most people don’t seem to appreciate it. If it’s not discontinued in the spring you’ll be able to pick one up cheaper in the year. If it’s discontinued you’ll wish you bought it.
