Stolen rolex advice

Hello I had recently my watch stolen in armed robbery as I was walking outside of a club, the problem is that couldn’t go to report it in the police as I didn’t had the serial number, the box was in the bank safety box I have in Swiss while I live in London, anyway I got it after 1 month so now I finally went to the police and have the paper with the serial number. The question is

Should I go to Rolex to report it so to out the watch in red list or better let some months to pass so someone goes to Rolex to authenticate that is not stolen so the new owner after sometimes go to service and then block the watch ?
I mean if I go to report it now the thieves wouldn’t be able to sell the watch
I mean they have access to the stolen watch serials so they know if a watch is reported as stolen or not….

I think you are over thinking it. I would report it as soon as possible to Rolex. Thieves are thieves, what else would they do with it if they find it’s reported stolen? They’ll still sell it either way. If you wait for someone else unsuspecting to purchase it the situation will only get worse in my estimation.

How do you figure the thieves will know the watch has been reported stolen?

Because any sensible person who has a $10000+ watch stolen from them would report it to the police immediately. You should have reported it right after it happened and updated the police with the serial once you got to the box.

I have been told that they can check if a watch has been flagged, don’t ask how, people are always cracking so there is a way, so I think it’s better to leave some time so they can sell the watch to someone u suspected so I will have the chance to get this watch after some years….
As if it will be flagged stolen then will never reach a Rolex service again

He’s simply looking for advice on how to best report a stolen watch.

I don’t get why some ppl here think the victim owes us all the details of a traumatic event. It’s just pure voyeurism.

I expect it was sold some time ago. It might be in the hands of someone who knows it was stolen but it's just as likely to belong to someone who bought it and does not know its provenance.

An independent registry is only as good as how widely it is known and used...and it seems the answer to both is "not very".

Your best bet is to have it caught when serviced, just get the police report (they will require one) and report it to Rolex.

Also, other stolen watch registries are free to use. Enquirus (which is owned by Richemont) may be the largest.

Am I right in assuming that a stolen watch only becomes visible when someone tries to have an official service ( AD or RSC) or tries an above board sale?

I believe that heisted watches wind up on wrists of people who wont do either for many years if ever

Someone will eventually need to service the watch so it’s worth reporting it to Rolex.

I’d also file a police report if they’re willing to accept it this late in the game.

So sorry you had your Rolex stolen, and at gunpoint, no less. That’s awful. I hope it was insured, at least, and that you were unharmed. Also, of course you should report it to the police, and Rolex right away.

You can't just report it to Rolex, you have to have a proper police report.
Rolex is not going to call you, they will report receipt of a stolen watch to the authorities of which they have a report from.

Guys you are using the point, of course I have reported to the police the incident but the question is if I have to report it to Rolex as well.

I believe if I do that then my last hope of finding the watch will vanish as now someone can call Rolex and find out the watch serial is clean, I know in some countries Rolex services do that and not to mention the corruption as those are only employees and the thives of those watches have the means and can have access to those stolen serial lists

Anyway thank you all but the question was if someone knows for sure that those thieves have access to the stolen serial lists as I have been told by a friend of me policeman that knows how those people act

Rolex doesn’t share that kind of information publicly. Rolex keeps the list private as far is I know and when someone services the watch, Rolex checks the serial against their stolen register.
