Howcome the Chopard Alpine Eagle Gold costs more then a DayDate40?

Gorgeous watch but retails almost $20k more then the DayDate40

Higher end brand than Rolex.
Their steel models are more expensive than similar Rolex as well.

Really? I always thought of Chopard is a mid tier brand along the lines of a Breitling and Panerai

No, between Rolex and Patek. They make complications and finish there movements to different levels. They have some very high end watches, not just the Alpine Eagle.

High end Chopards meet and beat Pateks. Take for example their minute repeaters.

Chopard minute repeaters are better than Patek minute repeaters? In what way?

Patek is rightly known as *the* MR specialist and its MRs are consistently the very best sounding.

You can wear the Chopard MR on a rainy day, for one. Most MRs have Zero watch resistance, including the new ones from Patek.

Chopard uses sapphire gongs and they sound magnificent. So, yes, meeting and beating Patek.

For me this Chopard with this dial is a killer. I love the finish and the details on the dial.

Msrp is what manufacturer thinks it’s worth. Market price is what market thinks it’s worth. Lots of watches have msrp and market prices that I disagree with.

I love this watch, not enough to buy it though. I would put the AE easily at the AP level!

I have the steel AE and it trumps my Rolex's in finishing in every aspect all day.

Well...

This is no ordinary AE!

L.U.C movement is spectacular. The lucent steel, salmon dial, and "no date" make this watch incredibly special.

You have tremendous taste.

Thank you! The "ordinary" versions are very nice too but I specifically chose this one for the thinner case, thinner bezel and no date. The LUC movement was a bonus...

Gorgeous watch but the bezel reminds me a bit if a Hublot. Wish they made this in 38-39mm

The finsihing on alpine eagle is certainly better than rolex but that doesnt justify the price difference in my view.

I think they just want to position them selves at a higher price point. Although my guess would be this difference will be much smaller in secondary market.
